lordy! me that was bad this morning.
It wasn’t to bad from my house to Potters Bar and bit slippery but not to much snow on the road. From Potters Bar to Hatfield it was like they didn’t attempt to clear the snow, acorss the road in different places where tree branches which had broke off due to the heavy snow, so some of the road became single lane with everyone trying to avoid them. I was doing 20-30mph on a national it was that bad with a few back end slides I eventually got to work. At a junction at Hatfield the car which was behind me from Potters Bar came along side me at the junction and said your either crazy or you’ve got big balls riding a bike in these conditions and I said to him I’m a crazy bloke with huge balls.
I usually see the same 6 bikes every morning but only one dared to venture out on the bike.
I don’t want to do that again in a hurry.
Hats off to you for attempting that – I’d have played chicken and left the bike at home.
No snow down here in East Sussex – I’ve been whizzing around on dry roads all day! (Brrrrrrr cold though!)
must say i was also thinking that there were not as many bikes around this morning…
guess the cityboys with their little vespas felt a bit too cold
Guess there’s no warmth in those Boss Suits and Church’s business brouges.
I went out earlier just for a bit of fun when the roads seemed to be drying out a bit. Kingston was fine. Leatherhead fine. And then as soon as I got past there the roads become suicidal. I’ve not been riding a long time so was taking it rather slow, I could feel the bike slipping out all over the place.
I then just decided to head home and find something warmer and safer to do
yeah JohnP - I’ve always ridden when it’s snowed because I have had to get to my job - I’ve only ever done it on my winter bike - an old high miles 98 Hornet - I don’t care if I drop it and it’s easy to pick up if i do. Still scary and unpleasant though - I guess the best bike for these kind of conditions is a motocross bike and knobbly tyres.
you wanna start work at $ am its 'kin cold then :w00t:
plus not much else been on roads before me so extra care needed, shoulda picked up an old XT or XL for winter
