The food can be pretty poor, but if they give you anything under-cooked, or cold, you really should send it back.
I was horrified to find that a cheese burger was a pound more than a burger … a quid for a slice of processed cheese FFS!!!
Sunday breakfasts are usually okay, and so is the Chilli, but I usually have chilli, rice & cheese rather the the “heart-attack a plate” chilli, chips & cheese.
The food in general is over priced and a health risk, chilli cheese and chips is like the lottery if its gona give you the shts or not, burgers ? how the fck can the give you a roll that just falls apart everytime and a burger thats been cooked about 3 times
ok the fry up… play it safe…snotty eggs on top and burnt underneath (dont need to be a chief do yer) and how dry can you make cheap beans that are all sauce ?
Have a good look at the Chef before you order (see below) if your desperate for food you’ll get to know what they’re safe at or watch your mates food coming out. As for sending it back -(1) irritates the chef so you don’t know what’s coming next, (2) My breaks during work if taken at the Ace are time restricted by tracker and Tacho in the Truck (breaks taken at Ace so can safely park) so waiting for another meal that’s already taken 20min minimum is out of the Q.
Morning after the ice in the spuds Sunday roast incident. I pointed out to Nick (manager) at breakfast the SAUSAGE was never turned over when being cooked but I ate it anyway and thought nothing of it as Marks away. Later that day I began thinking that - that Largest breakfast on the menu wasn’t shifting. God (forgive me) but did I pay for it later. I was just out of the loo and had to go back in again FOUR TIMES. A mini Niagra Falls each time. I’ve taken note of the chef to not let it happen again.
Ive never had any problems with the food at the Ace, but then I dont go there all that much. Their sausages are good, had a few of their starters/sides and Ive never had any problems with their drinks either. Ive also found the portion sizes good and not too expensive.
I guess anywhere is going to have the occasional issue, but in my experience, its been good, foodwise!
I’d recommend using Starvin’ Marvins which is on the A40 heading out of town (opposite the Hoover Building) as the place to eat -great burgers and shakes, then back to the Ace for the ‘atmosphere’.
I think part of the problem here is that the Ace have the market cornered as no where else has the space / welcomes bikers that’s so well known so in a way they don’t have to try that hard to keep people coming back…
…unless everyone started bringing flasks of drinks and a picnic
