hows my tyre looking??

haven’t really paid much attention to my tyres i.e depth wise and wow the front shocked me its had 7000miles (is that alot?) its the 2ct compound and is rather dead on 1 side so got a new one on its way as the rear is the pilot road and has loads more life left in it

my questions are

how long do these soft tyres sort of last?
has the rubber perished? as you can see its cracked
have i over inflated it at 38psi?

You should be more vigilante with the tyres fella, thats not looking too good.

7K is pretty good for a front tyre

Its not perished but does need changing

I would have said 38psi is a tad too hard and would generally run 34-36 in the front. I think most manufacturers recommend 36 front 42 rear. I run 33 front and 37 rear on mine.

top man cheers ill be on the ball from now on as i didnt think it would go in 5months and ill drop it down to 36 as i dont want any problems cant wait for my new rubber now

PJ aint the best one to get advice on front tyres from shiver, he gets more outa his as it aint ever on the road…

got almost 10k outa a maxxis front and usually 7/8k outta BT021 rear when changed, just gone onto pirelli angel st’s

oh n its 42 psi front/rear on a 'bird :)

pressure sounds like a lot, but the tyre looks good considering that it’s so totally knackered!

The Pilot Powers and 2CTs had a recall a couple of years ago because of a line that appeared around the circumferance of the tyre - maybe where the compound joined. There was no suggestion that there was a problem, but Michelin changed them anyway.

I’d normally say that a front should last 3-5k, but I’ve got a 2CT on the front of the ktm that’s wearing very quickly - it’s being used tho

I thought you only used the rear wheel on the KTM, Jerry? :w00t:

The stock SV pressures are 33f/36r - but I tend to run 34/38.

38psi in the front seems a tad high… wouldn’t it take ages to warm up in town?

You’re down to the *markers * pal, time for a new set

it’s only because the bikes got a topbox and I still have to stop

You don’t want to be using the bike manufacturers’ figures, you need to use the tyre manufacturers’ pressures.Usually for radials they go for a standard of 36 front 42 rear
I usually go 36 front otherwise the steering can feel a little slow, but depending on where I’m going and how the bike’s loaded run the rear from 38 to 42

PJ looking at your avatar I would say your tyres look under inflated.

Go by tyre manufacturer pressures. I use 42R/36F on mine, and can tell when they are out as the bike steers more slowly. The front Maxxis tyre has some 8700 on it and is still not on the wear bars. So a very good life span there. The rear Pirelli Diablo Strada has around 3000 on it now and is still nice and meaty. I do use the tyres quite well, so the wear is even.

I’ll be back to Maxxis again due to the good life span and the excellent grip I’ve had from them.

Looks like I’m putting more in for tomorrow, then!

Cheers.

Shiver, I saw how you went round the roundabout by Battersea park last week, no wonder your tyre looks like that

looks liek he hasnt a clue what teh markers are:D:laugh:
