With 130 cyclist arrests I’d suggest that messing about in the ZIL’s is not a wise idea, one bad cop might crack you over the head for fun like in the G20 and the powers that be will be on the bad coppers side!
Just use the next few weeks for a lay in, and blame being late or not bothering to come in on the traffic. A lost days pays going to be less than a fine and the bad copper ruining your life.
So the fines are actually PCN’ s exactly the same as parking & bus lane tickets so the theory about it costing " thousands" to process unfortunately does not hold water . Is a civil process not a criminal one , process are already in place it’s just run of he mill stuff for TfL
Legality of the lanes - they are all in place on the basis of temp traffic orders on the back of Olympic legislation - they are legal and relying an argument to the contrary is highly unlikely to succee - but good luck
In reality the chance of getting caught is relatively low but if you are probally best paying or appealing straight away while it is at discount
Can’t see the problem, if you don’t want a fine, don’t ride in the lane!!! simples:rolleyes: then you don’t need to contest anything, is it such a hardship
By the way, does anybody know how they are enforcing these lanes? I haven’t seen any cameras, nor any signs for cameras. Maybe they are just calling our bluff.
I saw on BBC Breakfast just before they came into force that they will be using CCTV to monitor the lanes. They showed people watching a load of CCTV monitors the central traffic office place.
not the same as knowing it… that could easily be CCTV of “monitoring ordinary traffic”
the only folk what know are the opeartors themselves…
Any of you lot on her?
Care to spill the beans… ?
Its all a stunt… no one’s had a ticket yet, and yet thousands have been meandering into lanes every day
nah mate, I work in news myself, so just quoting rumour is a sure fire way to get your report wrong… source is EVERYTHING when discussing an important issue… “they said” has a much merit as a pub anecdote.
By the way pernickity is probably a complement to a pedant of my calibre, so thanks
I know what you mean about source being everything but I’m not going to know the source of their information and I would’ve thought that out of all the news channels, the BBC would be the most likely to have checked their sources appropriately, so I tend to trust them. Of course I could be wrong but I’d rather not test it and end up with a £130 fine.
Yes but thanks to RIPA, traffic enforcement cameras are always accompanied by warning signs, and I don’t see any of these out there, so maybe there aren’t any cameras. Just undercover enforcement cars maybe.
nope, its a short term ploy, scare the hell out of everyone and by the time they realise the whole things not happening, the bulk of the traffic problem days will have passed… everyone’s a winner, cept the people who were bluffed, US. They keep lanes clear, and at the end of the day no one is ticketed, so anyone who strays in feels like they got away with it, rather than feeling penalised in an already difficult and controversial financial envronment… PR coup in my book. Hats off to em
