How many times have you crashed?

Both ages ago now touches wood on a CG125 …

Riding into Marlow (Bucks) … I was overtaking a VW Beatle as it passed a petrol station, and with no indication he turned right straight into me. Bike ended up on petrol station fore-court. I was battered and bruised.

Riding into Marlow (Bucks) … late getting home, so shifting a bit … Moggy Minor van pulled out of a side road on the left in front of me … I swerved and nearly missed him, glanced off his wing, I slid down the road and watched my bike sliding with sparks coming off it in front of me. I was battered and bruised again.

Both of these incidents resulted in successful claims … lucky really!

The only other incidents have been little slides on my 350LC, when the front end decided to let go … once on some gravel at the end of my road … and once on some diesel/oil as I carefully approached a round-a-bout. They both scratched my bike & dented my pride.

The biggest mistake riders make is expecting other road users to look, to signal, to adhere to the law or adhere the Highway Code … THEY DON’T!! … and knowing the other road user is at fault is of little consolation when you are lying in the road bleeding!! … or worse still, dead!!

None, im sure they will come tho

wheelied into the back of a ford escort that did an emergency stop in front of me

went over car and landed on chinbar of crash helmet and cracked it, hardly a mark on me though (i love shoeis since then) bike was totalled, think car was too

really wasnt my fault as it was a hot sunny day in a town centre and there were lots of girls wandering about who needed showing off too

a 90mph tank slapper that i got flung through the air by and slid for ages down a dual carrigeway on my back watching my bike disintergrate in front of me, walked away with bruises

and a lowside getting knee down too aggresivly on a roundabout, slid on arse walked over to bike picked it up and rode it home

i’d love to say some of this was someone elses fault, but at the end of the day we live and learn…

in 23 years? Never on the road and 2 times on track… dropped the bike stand still 4 times though

coming away from boxhill on my rd350 circa early 90’s going up the hill towards bookham which is two lanes going up and one going down, a guy coming down the hill decides to overtake which causes the car in front of me to do an emergency stop, i yank on the brakes and lose the front end ,the bike spins across 3 lanes of traffic with out hitting anything, i end up rubbing my head of the catseyes in the road, and doing an impression of a breakdancer in the road, while trying to avoid a rangerover which is aiming at me, luckily i am not injured and the bike is not badly damaged , the car driver of course is not insured, and legs it and i get to wait for the aa to take me home.

once on the road! once on a short cut along a gravel track! Everytime i took the yz250 out to a track or a quarry! never broke a bone! touch wood!

Once. Highsided my ZXR400 outside the barbers. Pulled off a bit shapish hit some deisel and ended up on my back!! nothing broken except my bike.

3

First time I was chasing a mate on a twisty road at midnight, wearing a dark visor, doh… - didn’t see what I hit (stone, or half brick, or something?), but gave me first hand experience of tankslappers (bar snapped my thumb).

Second time a dozy bird in the opposite lane didn’t notice 3 oncoming lanes of traffic!? when the light turned green. Unfortunately I was in the lane closest to her.

Latest was at Cadwell. Picture it: brand new bike, engine broken in a couple of days before, first session of the day, just done 3 warm up laps, come onto the main straight, wind on the throttle, OMG this bike is a rocket, hugh, that was a puff of smoke off the the guy in front’s front tyre, OH SH!T! Just don’t hit him. Wow, I’m on the floor? WOW, my bike is burning like a candle
The guy locked his front brake about 1/3rd way down the straight to avoid hitting the guy in front of him… His wife was kind enough to come over afterwards and let me know that their bike had hardly any damage at all. She was escorted away promptly.

Twice

Trapped under bike under water - came round corner and road wasnt there anymore as it had been flooded

Car turned in front of me and didnt brake in time - still trying to get the F****** hosp to confirm fracture but dont get me going and am still riding

i have had 3 at over 120mph,broke to many bone to put down.
2 wheelieing over 100mph
3 on diesel 2 at work as a courier,1 on a country lane,
and about 10 silly ones i was a courier for 24 years so not to bad.

  1. Highsided TS50 when doughnutting it on the grass outside school (16) when the back wheel touched the tarmac. It was all looking so impressive for the girlies until then

  2. Locked front wheel on TZR250 under braking then slid through a load of horse shit on the road (nice!) because I’d read in MCN that Rob Maclnea reckoned you weren’t breaking hard enough unless you were lifting the back wheel

  3. Lost back end of CBR400 on roundabout on diesel. Then got up carried on round the roundabout and very very nearly crashed again.

  4. Semi-highsided then crashed CBR400 at Castle Combe because couldn’t believe that a GSX-R1100 had overtaken me so (stupidly) gased it up

  5. Collided with another racer at a North Glos practice day on my CBR400 and got sent flying into the air at approx 120. Arm smashed to pieces and collar bone broken. Took four operations to mend it all

  6. Lost the back end of my ZX-6R on a roundabout going to a party in Nottingham because I’d stopped to look at the map for a while then hadn’t thought about how much my tyres had cooled

So, 4/6 were totally my fault, one was partly my fault and the other wasn’t my fault at all.

Five times on the road…

1, White-van-man hitting me from behind at a RED light!!!
2, Woman not checking her blind spot or indicating in my lane…
3, Teenager on pushbike with headphones on not watching what was going on in the road!!
4, Twat doing a U-Turn on red route with no lights at night!
5, Woman pulling out in front of me out of side-road.

Three times on the track…

1, Lyden Hill,
2, Snetterton,
3, Brands…

Been really lucky to have not been injured badly and walked away each time…
