Post Edited: Trying to decide what to use to secure my bike, but it has rightly been brought to my attention that a public forum isn’t the best place to discuss what you actually use to keep your bike safe. With that in mind, any recomendations would be appreciated.
all looks pretty good though i would budget for more on the chain. I also use an Oxford bos lock i thin kits called (the one which is basically an alarmed padlock). its not going to deafen anyone but is enough to scare off opportunist scrouts. make sure your chain is tucked out the way to make it difficult to get to.
Almax chains are the best by far although even they are not indestructible, your only real protection is not to have it on the street or use a bike shed (the metal ones) - have you got space for one of those? At 3am theres no one to notice an alarm and chains dont see to offer any protection - is there no way you can get it off the street?

Dont bother with a disclock if your using a chain its pointless

a tracker is the best idea and mark that the bike is fitted with an instant alarm tracker.

I still think the bike bag is the best protection but out of sight/out of mind means the best protection is to get the bike out of the way…
One of the top ones to protect the bike is a heavy clamp - like they use on trucks which have parked illegally - you cant lift the bike witht hat on and the locks are extremely tough to stop truckers taking them off. If i was parking outside it is what I would use as it also vovers the whole of the front wheel. there is I believe a product like this specific to bikes now although I cant remeber the name it was featured in PB magazin recently. What you need is weight as even if they break the chain they have to lift the bike plus clamp weighing in at 60-90 kilos. thats alot of weight to lift!
Hey Shewolf, no harm in asking but be wary of giving out your bikes security detail on a public forum!!!
See Charley for Alarm and Tracker details:
get a good alarm that comes with a immobiliser as one like a system 3,a good disc lock not a cheap £40 one,and a good chain they are about £200,if it goes after that then it will not matter what you put on it if its parked in the open, pop in i will sort you out some prices,if im not here see glen.
the best thing is security wise is
not tell everyone on a public forum what you use…
you may aswell post up when your not home too
main post edited.
Very good advise
plus
just make it as awkward as possible and don’t have a routine.
I found steel traps, a beware of the leopard sign, an elephant pit, Chris Moyles as the Alarm siren and a crap bike most effective.
oh cmon - they can see what the original poster uses by driving up to it and lifting it, no thief is ever going to read a forum and go ‘oooh now I know what I need to steal that bike’ its way too inefficient compared to an industrial cutter and a van.
honestly these guys just wouldn’t bother and how would you find the address anyway ?
btw with the use of photoshop you can un digitise your ‘blurring’ of your number plates quite easily
the pros frankly just would not bother with looking here - they dont need to…
WTF who died and made you king of the castle??? how do you know what goes on bike thiefs cruise bike meets and follow people home happened a few times this year whats the point of lashing out on security then telling everyone???
man if i wanted to listen to an a***hole id fart mate…
I have a datatool system 4 and disclock - sheesh now IM worried
if they follow you home then you’re done anyway - as I said industrial cutter and van
oh and yep I guess they would recognise you if you posted your pics here etc - thats far worse than just talking about security that you may have ?
the original point was ‘security’ matters very little as the police stats have confirmed - anonymous is the key
I suggest you fart a bit more…
well i use a revolver lock on the front, now have ground anchor going in and a monster chain gold for the rear!
Move to Norway. You can even leave your lid and gloves on your bike for a few hours while you go shopping, come back, and still find them there. Try that in the UK.
Anyone wanna buy a Kryptonite chain?
get and old sh**ter and then no one will nick it…
like ginger, plus his bike still keeps up with R1’s
XJ 600 fully tuned, maybe the best bike in the world
Amen brother Adam. I hear the words of the Lord in that post.
I’ve always found that hooking the bike up to a sprinkler system and a 40,000 Watt battery does the trick…alternatively smear it in honey and leave a wasps nest wedged into the chain…
But my real fave has to be the piano suspended above it on a timed piece of rope slowing unravelling rope…I’ve no idea what the timing is supposed to be but when you get it right? oh the laughs
an old crap bike is the best idea tbh but Im just too ‘jack flash’ to do it give it a couple of years and I’ll see sense…
Some good advice there, and some strange suggestions, lol. I think I’ll go for the suspended piano and Chris Moyles method
