Okay anyone got any ideas…i can of course just use normal spary but it wont last two minutes so what do i do…do they need to be stove enameled or what…anyone know…
You can buy brake caliper paint in all sorts of colours now mate
Try Sperex
THANKS CHUNKS…just need to get that dull satin look…am on the trail now…
In the old days we used Hermatite brush on engine paint and put it in the oven to cure:)
I used silver hammerite on my cars brake calipers, done em 4 years ago and still look ok today
hmm car brake calipers take a lot of abuse for sure…did you use smooth shiny or hammered finish…I want a satin finish and for sure dont think there is a hammerite version is there…I like hammerite mostly though good paint for so many jobs…especially on my army trucks…
I found the hammerite smoothrite best for this job.
Do you find it bubbles up when you spray it on aluminuim Tel?
If not, what am i doing wrong:w00t:
You might need their primer, it worked fine on my ali brackets. I just used a regular halfords brand primer.
Cheers Tel:)
I thought that would be the case.
Barbecue Paint would work too 2T:)
You need to use an etch primer on ali parts. Ali also seems to hold oil on the surface better than steel, so I usually rub the surface down and soak in solvent too.
hey thanks gang…this is good news…get an etching primer for ally, then coat with barbecue paint spray maybe…to get a satin black finish…dont want a shiny black…will give it a go…have three to do at the moment and likely a few more over the summer…
I used the smooth shiny Hammerite - wire brushed the calipers down, used an airline to blow off all the bits of loose crap & then cleaned with brake/carb cleaner and then painted the calipers. Done a few trips to the ring in the car so they’ve taken a beating but the paint still doesnt look too bad even now - just a bit dirty
