Hornet 600 problem

Hi guys

Ive got a problem with my hornet 600 i hope someone can help me with. Had the bike for a few weeks now but didnt notice this problem until now.

The seat cant open. The key fits but when i turn it it stops 1/4 of the way round. If i try to force it I will bend the key so there must be something wrong. Is there a special technique to opening it that I am not aware of?

Thanks for any help

From what I remember on the hornet, you have to PULL the seat off from the back, towards you (if you are at the end of the bike). It doesn’t pop off or make any noise or action like it’s been released.

Keep key turned and pull the seat away from the bike.

Yep - as above - turn the key and with your other hand push the seat backwards - it should pop out.

cheers for replies im gonna give it ago now

wish me luck.

Good luck. Hope you find summat interesting in there that the previous owners left by mistake.

yea no luck.

My first post is wrong, the key actually moves about 1/10th of the way so there must be something wrong with the lock.

Does anyone know of any places I can take my bike that could fix it?

Try squirting some WD40 into the lock - then waggle it around with the key - as it’s exposed to rain etc it might have become stiff/seized.

I had a similar problem and bent my key before learning the knack (can’t remember now though, sorry).

I found the answer to this and many other Hornet related questions on the HHOC site - http://www.hondahornet.co.uk/messageboard2/index.php

can you get to the cable? try giving it a tug, thats all the key does.

cheers garret but solutions there didnt help me. The lock must be buggered

Where is the cable located?

There is no cable on the hornet seat lock.

Try WD40 as mentioned above. Also try pushing down on the back of the seat as you turn the key.

I suspect its about developing the knack
I had problems with my hornet and ended up buying a tail pack to avoiding taking the seat off for my disc lock. The previous owner had problems too as one of the keys he gave me was bent.
I did learn how to do it but cant remember now. Sorry.
There isn’t much of a click from the lock and it only turns about a quarter turn…oh and you do have to pull the seat off backwards but I cant remember if you have to hold the key turned or not. Good luck.

woo managed to do it.

I didnt give up and done it buy putting my whole weight on the seat and pushing it out as I turn the key
thx seb

phew its not something i want to do as a regular occurance :hehe:
