Honda Hornet

What are they liek to ride? and to live with as a main bike?

Talk to me.

Very reliable as you would expect from a Honda.

600cc is nimble and easy to manouvre, the 900cc is slightly less so but has wonderful punch and performance.

But then i would buy the new CB1000R :stuck_out_tongue:

Small tank range on older ones (16l and 17l).

was thinking the exact same thing…that or a Duc Monster…

not good , keep ya SV! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve really enjoyed mine for the past 4 years - got the older one with the fairing. Not sure I’d want the naked one for longer rides etc. Been very reliable, quite cheap (and to insure), fun to ride, keeps up on Jetstream rides, and been fun enough on track days.Having said that after 4 years I’m thinking of something with a bit more oomph. Might well keep the Hornet in Wales as my trustworthy backup bike. Probably more likely to sell the Speed Triple instead.Edited to add - mine’s the 600FS. I’ve not met anyone who regrets their Hornet, and a few seem to miss them!

love ours, ride it more of the time than the r1 these days in the city. get the mivv can and annoy your neighbours!

i am;)

You cannot go wrong with a Hornet. A laugh to ride and totally reliable.

I had an SV650 which got nicked, I replaced it with a Hornet 900 and I love it. Only thing I miss about the SV is the V-twin.

Grr … some bugger pushed mine over tonight while I was at the gym. Don’t know if they were pissing around, or trying to nick it. Anyway, it was lying on the floor … poor thing. I picked it up, and the R&G crash bungs prevented almost any damage … just a mildly bent rear indicator and slight bend in the gear shift. Tough bike. Love it.

if i get a decent insurance quote tommorow…im going to buy one tommorow:D

shitter about yours getting knocked over! bastards!

pretty much everyone i have spoke to about the hornet has saud they are a hoot to ride, and will go a lot quicker than you think

Cheers mate  And I am still learning to max mine out around Brands. Taking the Green Triumph the other day with you all was “easy” in comparison. The Hornet may be “slower” but its more fun to get the max out of.

This guy’s looks nice, http://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic809831-39-1.aspx, though deservedly a little bit of a premium.

I’m sure you’ll find a good deal on the insurance, so enjoy your Hornet!

well i had a test ride on an 06 hornet today, i liked it! was nippy, bit diffrent to my Thou tho, felt like you wind the power on, not as insatnt as a big twin, past 7k RPM it got a fiar old shift on, handled nicely too.

just gotta decided if i really want it now! aaaaargh!!

got a say i love my bike! it does everything i want perfectly:

commute? got enough power to blast past trafic. relaxed riding position and great manouverability. also no too thirsty 150miles to tank (or just before tank is empty)

sunday blast? easily keeps up with sports bikes and no risk of loosing your license

touring? been to wales and cornwall with the missus on the back and to france with mates

off road? well not really… but have taken it down dirt roads (accidently got lost)…as its more upright its better to keep a handle

I dont mind the windblast… ok you cant go mental for too long… but you feel the speed if you know what i mean

as for maintenance as its a naked its simple? oil change is a dodle. dont take any panels of. undo one bolt remove oil and the oil filter and replace. done!

spark plugs are easy as well. only #3 is a pain as its underneath the spine and my hands dont fit easily

you can also mod it to hell loads of aftermarket bits.

I also love the looks. a modern bike with retro twist. the tail (modern side) is one of the best - i hate the new stumps (aka speed triple, ZX10r). and the round light is classic.

so you gonna get it then?!!?!

probably am mate,
i really really liked it, was very very tempted to see how easy it would clutch up:D but twas a test ride so i didn’t take the piss.

liked the handling, and the brakes felt good too, sitting at the lights i enjoyed listening to the idling burble that it makes, unlike the DOF-DOF-DOF-DOF of my Vee.

Overall it ticked all the right boxes for me.

as to why, well i i been thinking about a new bike for a while, and i thought back to couriering, and how much fun the little CBF500 was, so i thought why not get a bigger one! with a bit more go.

been on vee twins nearly 5 years now, bout time i had a change, tho i am still keeping my SV…cos i ferking love it!

not all of it

you aint traffic mate!

yeah! Hornets>GSRS

if your keeping up with sports bikes, theres a very real threat of losing your licence!!
