How did you come to the valuation of 2K? :ermm:

Ignore that, they seem to vary in price quite a bit.

Hi a few questions:

  1. What’s the condition of the down pipes and middle sections like? (It’s hard to tell from the pic but it looks like it’s corroding/surface rust/?)

  2. The right hand side engine casing paint ‘looks’ like its corroding, is it?

  3. What’s the condition of the fuel tank like, any scratches, dents or anything else?

  4. Was the centre stand an optional extra or was it standard feature?

  5. When/where was it last serviced and what work was carried out

Thanks

Answers above…

Engine corrosion is standard on these I’m afraid. But the answer is a wire brush, masking tape, newspaper and some hammerite paint! Less than £10 and you are all sorted.

Cracking nice bikes. I’ve got a non ABS version. Gets me 60mpg and goes well enough to have fun on.

I was inches close to doing what you outlined re painting the engine a few months back - but the very “knowledgeable” staff at Halfrauds stated it is not suited for engine hot temperatures…?

Keen to know how it worked out for you if you sprayed it on your one…? Is it holding it off properly? How many coats did you apply…?

Cheers…

Well, I sprayed it up a month ago now. First off, I rubbed down with a wire brush and then buffed it smooth. Surface preparation is half the job.

Masked the bike up (hammerite is notorious for overspray!) with masking tape and newspaper, covering what I did not what to be silver in colour! Then very light coat. Give it 5 minutes, another coat, 5 minutes and so on until you have a nice looking engine case.

It helps if the engine case is warm, not hot.

Also put the can in a bucket of warm water to heat it up nicely.

Shake can vigorously for a couple of minutes and give it a quick blast before starting your spray job.

Seems to be holding up okay. I will do it again as I did the job in very cold weather and so it was hard to get the type of finish I would prefer to have.

I shall certainly give it a bash - when you get a chance could you post up a couple of pics of the result…? Cheers pal…

Hi,

will you give away the centre stand on his own perhaps?

if so, let me know

The best thing to use on engine casings and even the downpipes is high temperature paint. You can get this from Halfords or you can even use barbacue paint which is also temperature resistant. I’ve use it on my CB500 engine and exhaust and its great. I’ve also got an SP Engineering can on mine and its great - really really loud as there’s no baffle in and no re-jetting needed either.
