Son’s bandit has ABS and I like it. the ABS, that is, not the Bandit.
The Honda system looks very complex and it worries me that the parts will be unubtainable in a couple of years time as they will be on to another entirely new system by then.
I think I’ll stick to rider input, thank you. Might not be as good but so far it’s lasted 60 odd years with very few replacement parts.
Not a Luddite, just a pragmatic tight fisted old f*rt.
we have a fleet of cb 500 and all the riders think the abs is more dangerous as when you hit a pot hole or speed hump the brakes dont work lol so you could hit a pot hole behind a car hit a pothole and find you and the bike in the back of the car ow do you explain that one to the insurance company ?
I have a CBF500 with ABS, and to be honest it has only come on a couple of times in 24000 miles. And it is not that intrusive, and it is highly effective, the benefits far out weigh the negatives.
Here is a clip from YouTube comparing a CB500 and a CBF500/A in wet conditions.
I’ve done over 50k miles in 6yrs on Peugeot scooters with ABS and can think of only 3 or 4 times where I have noticed the system working. And when it does there is no pulsing or anything untoward. The bike just stops. And does not fall over. ROSPA are recommending ABS on all road bikes, by the way.See my avatar for a pic from a french magazine testing emergency braking in the wet alongside a tripod.
And the pic below shows the comparative stopping distances in the wet and dry between two otherwise identical machines. You don’t need to understand Italian to get the gist.
