Tenerife? Had to go there recently for a family emergency. Not impresssed at all, It is one of the most horrible ugly places I’ve seen since I last made the mistake of going through a Spanish Costa. English pubs and all day english breakfasts? Blackpool in the sun urgh!.
i love India, it is like time travel to the past i’ve never experienced, and i love me homeland, the vast open grassland<object width=“425” height=“355”><param value="<A href='http://www.youtube.com/v/Az3o1cQh3jg&hl=en">http://www.youtube.com/v/Az3o1cQh3jg&hl=en"></param><param value=“transparent”></param><embed src=“http://www.youtube.com/v/Az3o1cQh3jg&hl=en” type=“application/x-shockwave-flash” wmode=“transparent” width=“425” height=“355”></embed></object>
stayed there a few times when i was a nipper with the family
Los Christianos went from a nice little fishing village to a craphole when it merged with the neighbouring town via the new developments (playa de las america or something like that?)
i hope the north of the island is still the beautiful antidote to the south it was back then
Los Christianos and Playa de Las Americas are a bit like chavvy Blackpool but the rest of the island is lovely and greener than any of the other Canaries:cool:
Yeah! North coast is nice though- on both islands. Went this time last year for the first time and toured both in a hire car. I can recommend the hotel and casino Santa Catalina in Las Palmas- five star but not stupidly expensive.
I bet it was Playa or Los Christianos:cool:

How did you guess? I understand the north is better, if I was to go there out of choice then it would be the north. But apart from the uglyness of Las Americas/Christianos & the coast I found it a funny place, I’d speak Spanish to the locals and they would reply in English. I kept thinking my Spanish is not that bad is it? It got me through 3 weeks driving around Cuba. Not to mention Panama last year or Costa Rica 8 years ago. But I suppose as the Canarian lingua is different to Spanish, like the Catalan/Mallorcan dialect is different to Castillian Spanish then they think it is best to reply in English.

You only need to head 5 minutes from Las Americas and will find plenty of non English speaking chicos. It’s a bit like saying the North of England is ugly because you hated Blackpool.:DThere is a fascinating history behind the island as well for those who have ever bothered to look:cool:
Yeah I think that Christopher Columbus did a pit stop there, en route for South Americas gold & other booty. The introduction of syphalis into europe is blamed on those sailors, supposedly catching it from the native indians.
His ship’s diary says he did stop in Las Canarias but not in Tenerife as Mount Teide was in full eruption at the time in 1492. So instead he landed on La Gomera
They recon the Vikings were the first Europeans on the island. Experts say it was them that bought European diseas to the island and eventually wiped out the native Indians (Guanches)
Also. Did you know Tenerife has its own pyramids?:w00t:
One of my favorite holiday places, is another island, Crete. A place with incredible history, they have ruins that pre date the parthanon in Athens. I like the west of the island, it’s pretty rugged with big mountains & the most amazing blue sea, falasarna beach has pink fragments of coral in the sand.
My dream has always been to spend about 3 months there & explore the whole island on a dirt bike.
The girls and I are going to Cancun, Mexico again for a week in June…We took a Caribean cruise over Thanksgiving last year…never again…cruising absolutely SUCKS.
We Holiday alot in the States too…Colorado, usually…I did a long week-end back home in Boston for Patriot’s Day week-end a couple of years ago…
We keep talking about going to Italy for two weeks but haven’t made it happen yet. shrug
Owned a flat in Puerto de la Cruz for a number of years and watched the town gently decay into, well, a dump. Declining traditional shops, bars, restaurants, etc. with not much worthwhile replacing it.
North of the island is nicer than the south but thats like comparing a rusted out Merc. to a rusted out Ford. Lack of town planning and decent environmental policies have let the whole island become a pile of **ap with a few nice bits left. But the **ap was spreding up the east coast when I was last there 5 years ago.
