HG Rescued

I did a HG tour today to try and fall like a vulture on the remains of the fire sales. HG Kenton was closed for business, and HG Hangar is basically empty, but the guys mentioned that from Monday they will be back to business as usual. Apparently Hein Giericke Germany have bought the UK company from the administrators. The guys in HG Chiswick also confirmed this.

I got nothing of course, it was all sold long ago :expressionless:

Dat is gut no!

Really pleased to hear that HG Germany have bought them - that’s great news.

Looks like us lucky peope who got there first managed to get some bargains just in time then!

Good news! It’ll take a lot of work to be back to ‘business as usual’ by Monday though - they’ll have to spend a few days replenishing their stocks and displays first!

btw all HG 's will be closed tomorow, and re-open saturday;)

So pleased about this - I was thinking about the LBers who work in the Stockwell branch, who are always so friendly and helpful. It must have been very worrying for them and others not knowing if they’d have jobs left to go to.

Really pleased it’s worked out :)

Great news!

Ratty just called me saying he can wait to try on his lederhosen

Don’t think it’s a factor but…

MetalRed and me spent £350 in HG Kenton on Sunday.

Got at least £600 worth of gear

Nice saving!

I was out of the country when it all went down, and didn’t manage to get anything :frowning:

A shame, since I’m in the market for a new lid, a new jacket and a GPS…

i’ve just thrown up in my mouth at the thought

At 8am this morning a large van was parked outside HG Stockwell and they were carrying a load of huge boxes into the shop.

Also splurged a bit couple of weeks ago. Starting out, so got leather trousers, back amour, boots and pair of lids for £400. My AGV lid along goes for £180 elsewhere. Had wondered why they had suddenly stopped spamming me on Facebook!

This is great news.

Pretty clever how HG Germany can buy something they already own. I understand that is the parent company; HG UK was run under licence. So presumably it was simply a matter of revoking the licence. Presumably HG staff on this site can correct me if I’m wrong.

I am looking forward to walking into a fully-stocked HG Coulsdon on Saturday

So that’s why I saw a van outside the one in stockwell with boxes being taken in to the store

Edit: but completely missed Giuliano’s post on the exact same thing!

I bet I run into Giuliano on my commute (just don’t know it) as that was the time I was riding past it…

Seperate company with rights to import the goods. Presumably they had some sort of license and would breach the terms if they ceased trading. If there is no buyer the licesne would return to HG in Germany. They would still need to buy the leases etc, but if there are no other buyers then that would not necessarily be expensive. HG can run the brand then spin off a UK subsidiary once it is established and sell it on, or sell franchises.

You would think stuff would be cheaper now, what with no mark up from the German HG to the now defunked UK HG

Das ist nicht gut

Fixed it!

Brill news!

I think of all the help and stuff I got from HG over the last 14 years of biking and I was deeply saddened to hear of them going under - the UK arm albeit.

From now on I’m going to make an effort to go and buy something from them on a regular basis, be it only a can of lube or so (times are tight, that’s no joke), but something to show its important to me. Plus Infinity need the competition.
