Help with Rukka jacket purchase.

Want to get a good quality textile jacket and predictably looking at Rukka.
Wondering if anyone has looked at the Armas vs the Argo?

I don’t do massive amounts of wet weather riding but when I do it is usually on my commute.
I dislike putting a wet jacket back on at the end of the day.
Current textile is a Bering Gizmo- it is decent in light spray and warm enough until it gets really cold and chucks it down.
If the Gizmo gets soaked in the morning then it won’t be pleasant to put on for the trip home so I want to sort that out.

Can justify the Armas if it really is an order of magnitude better than the Argo but I don’t want to waste money unnecessarily.
Various German shops have the Argo for £450 and the Armas for £850 or so.
The Argo is the one I’m thinking of going for.

Also, why are they so expensive here in the UK- the Argo is £800 here.

Thanks people.

Nikwax is your friend.

I had both , still have the Armas. The little things like the liner in the sleeve that go into the glove to stop water flowing back in and the collar are the major ones I can think of. The sharkskin type bits in the wear areas are good but not a deal beaker for me. They will hold the water in , so will feel wet outside but the barrier layers keep it from you, also when they soaking wet , I mean proper wet you can get cold.

Any Rukka is the dogs bollocks. :w00t:

You know about a year ago now, I was faced with a similar decision, wanted a nice quality textile jacket and trousers. I looked at Rukka gear, considered the Argo and the Armas as well.

In the end I weighed up the issues of riding to work every day on London’s dirty roads and realised that anything I bought would face harsh conditions far beyond the weather. I didn’t feel like spending almost £1,000 on gear to see it ruined by salt, paint, wet concrete, oil, diesel etc.

So I bought an entire textile suit for £100.

It is bone dry, breathable. comfortable, made of a suitably strong material for commuting, and is still in good condition after 9 months of riding through London’s roads (I took winter off).

I have a Rukka jacket and Rukka trousers.

I don’t use them. No point. The jacket and trousers I have do the job.

Now an argument might be made to say, well Rukka gear will last longer it is better made. I would argue that it is unlikely that they will last 10 times longer than the gear I bought. Mine has lasted 1 year, without showing any signs of wear and tear, and looks good to last, at the absolute least, another year.

To break even the Rukka gear would have to last 20 years. I don’t think it will last that long.

I honestly have to say that unless the label means something to you, I don’t see the value of spending that much on Rukka gear.

If the label matters, then of course buy what makes you happy, but if you just want something to do a job, keep you dry, keep you cool, keep you protected and to feel comfortable in then £450-£1,000 is a pointless expense that you can do without.

Ok, had a couple of trips to various shops to try out all of the Rukka range.
Not sure about them to be honest.

They are REALLY high up on the neck and I find it quite restrictive.

I find the cut to be a bit weird as well- to get the right fit across my shoulders I have to go for quite a big size and it pretty loose around my belly and chest.

The best cut was the Armaxis but the lining sticks to the skin when you take the jacket off- felt like it would be a pain to live with.
Liked the zip on the Armaxis a lot more than the Argo and the ArmaS though.
The lining on the ArmaS was really great but the cut wasn’t great for me.

Thinking I might stick with my leathers and just put on a waterproof over the top when it rains and maybe get a cheaper Goretex jacket for the days when I don’t want to wear leathers.

try triumphs 90% off sale. not much actually at 90% off but some bargains none the less.
