Help with increasingly annoying squeak?...

I have a 2011 Bonneville T100, picked up in Jan. I don’t think this has been a problem from when I first got it, but I’ve noticed a really annoying squeak at around 15-25mph. I’m fairly sure it’s not the brakes as I first thought. The noise comes when I’m decelerating, especially if I change down gears, and the bike rocks a little. It’s loudest from the bikes rocking motion than anything else.

Is there any quick checks I could make to sort this myself? I know It’s under warranty still but I’d rather not chance having to leave it with them overnight or anything.

Just throwing it out there to see if anybody has any ideas.

Thanks in advance.

bit of wd40 on the brake discs should sort it…

Don’t do that obviously…

Could be something has worked itself loose since new… Check all your bolt torques etc…

Could be a dry suspension linkage?

Conrad sounds in the ballpark with dry suspension link . Give the bike a rock and listen around the swingarm area .

Just been giving it a good rocking. Forward and back whilst on it and holding the brake, and up and down standing beside it. No noise…

I had the very same with my 2010 Bonne’ …

An intermittent squeak at low speed, turned out to be a lose fixing on the front of the quick release summer screen.

Sounds like you have a road engine reverberating combination squeek … Best you can do is try and narrow down the area and start tightening bolts and screws on things that might move . Look for any rub marks or movement in fixtures and fittings. You could take a load of stuff off then put it back on again … If you have the patience for that .

I used to hear an annoying squeek from the rear of the bike along with poor handling and decreased power…so i stopped giving the girlfriend a pillion .

i find that’s more of a squeal than a squeak, but its the same fix :hehe:

Thanks for the replies guys. Today I gave the chain a thorough clean and I think it has cleared it up. Havent ridden it yet but there is no squeak anymore when pushing it.

Although I did encounter a new problem. Sheared the head off one of the chain guard bolts. Weary of riding it in case it moves and catches anything. Any ideas on how to get it out of the swingarm?

Pair of pliers, once you get the rest of the thing off. Probably safe to ride as is though.

Sorry, I didnt explain properly. The bolt head snapped off. So the thread has remained stuck, flush with the swingarm

You’ve got 2 options. Depending on whether you can get a grip on the remaining stud then a stud extractor might remove it. If not, then you will have to drill it out.

Easy out might also work . But they aint easy and need a bit of experience to use or you can end up making things worse .

use a screw extractor also known as an easy out, spray some wd40 on first then heat up the surronding area lightlly with a blow torch after drilling carefully with a 5mm bit.
start with the smallest easy out and increase size if required.

Ouch …

Those chain guard bolts are held in with a thread lock/weld and can be really tight. Drill and Easy Out will be your easiest option.
