Help with a parking ticket

ok saturday I park my bike on the pathment in Bromley high street in a place I have seen hundreds of bikes parked is not in the way of anything other than a static object that people would have to walk around anyway…

I come back and there is a ticket on the bike, now anyone that knowes bromley will know that there is 1 yes 1 bike bay in the whole of bromley town centre and it is at the bottom end…

What should I say in my appeal letter basically I’m going for you offer no parking for bikes and then ticket them when we park them anywhere

Not sure what you are going to appeal against?

The fact that you know it is wrong but other people do it so you did or the fact that you know it was wrong but the only bike bay is too far away?

yer I know what you mean but I’m peed off they offer nowhere to park for bikes, and force you onto the pathment then ticket you…I have been going to bromley for years and have never seen a ticket on any of the other bikes I turn up and bang there you go…I know I was in the wrong (sort of) but I was not obstructing anything, I was parked nicely and out of the way…I’m going to appeal and hope for the best and sorta hoping they will see sense in that they do not offer any parking for bikes… and if they booked me why not the push bikes next to me as surely they were illegally parked as well then…

i got done in romford for this. the offence was “parking with one or more wheels on the pavement” so you dont have to be obstructing anything. it sucks, but probably better to pay the fine then try to lobby the council to sort out bike parking.

Sorry mate, dont get it.

Bromley offer no parking for bikes so you think the pavement is fair game. Fair cop I’d call it.

Well where would you park your bike then? roads are all double yellow for miles around, and no bike parking??maybe I should take a winch and hoist it into a tree.

Highway Code Rule 244… 244You MUST NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement in London, and should not do so elsewhere unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs.

[Law GL(GP)A sect 15]

Parking on any pavement in London has been banned.

2 points1 was not in london
2 was not obstructing anything. ok I’m begging to get the picture I’m going to have to pay up, what I’m pee’d about is like all my post where the hell am I supposed to park a bike if there is no bike parking?

  1. It is the London Borough of Bromley http://www.bromley.gov.uk/Default.bromley

  2. Irrelevant, see 1 above.

I agree that it’s crap there is so little parking for bikes but there are also lots of other laws that are inconvenient or downright stupid - would you advocate ignoring those too?

Bromley is part of London - the Borough of Bromley is the largest in the capital (according to the council website) - even though parts are also referred to as Kent (eg Biggin Hill is in Kent but is part of the borough of Bromley).

Little black Hondas never break the speed limit then ? :stuck_out_tongue:

When they do, they accept whatever punishment the law deems to be appropriate whether they agree the limit is right or not!

Sorry to pass on bad news but there is actually loads of bike space round by the multi storey, Edison Road I think it is.

Very posh area and huge though I would not trust a flash bike there nor would I leave my heap for too long.

I only know this as I was nearly caught out recently and decided to find the bike space that I knew must exist somewhere.

I think they’ll say you should have looked harder, but check out the signage for this as I seem to remember it was a bit lacking.
