Help - anyone got any ideas?

Hi folks,

I’ve got a non-running scooter which I’ve declared as a SORN, and i was keeping it in my works car park and meant to try and get rid of it. But then I moved house and amid all the chaos, I forgot about it.

Now the work car park is closing and I have nowhere to park my SORN scooter, as I don’t have a driveway or garage to keep it in - the only parking is on the street, on which I believe, any vehicles parked must be taxed and insured, otherwise they are clamped and towed.

has anyone been in this predicament, or have any advice?

the bike is a non-runner and I haven’t used it for a long time - i thought about getting it taken away by a salvage company and wondered if anyone could recommend a company that would do this?

It’s a Tamoretti scooter 50cc (2007) with about 11,000 miles on the clock. I can’t get it started but I’m certain it is repairable. it’s a nice looking bike but with a little bit of rust on the chrome bits. But I would really like to be shot of it as I’ve nowhere to keep it.

Would it be cheaper for me just to get it taxed and insured as a temporary measure - ie. cheaper than getting clamped and fined, etc.

Any advice anyone?

Easiest would be to just flog it. Stick it on here/ebay/gumtree etc.

You’d need to get it up & running in order to tax it as you can’t tax it without getting it MOT’d first.

Got any skips in that work car park ? Remove plate and vin plate Couple of mates problem solved .

Just stick it on eBay… Someone will pay you to be able to take it away. Win, win situation.

Is Szymon still looking for something to transfer his automatic only insurance policy onto for a few months to qualify for a years NCB?

thanks for your advice folks. As I had to get it out of my works car park by midnight tonight I had little other choice but to call a bike salvage firm, who asked what make it was, then said “Oh it’s one of those Chinese imports - I don’t want to pay anything for that”, which is pretty much what I expected. So I just let them come and take it for free.

Oh well… Problem solved.
