Not sure if it is valid for a car as it is slightly different, I know that it is valid the other way around - I think!
No you need to do the bike theory for a bike and car for car. They are very different tests also… e.g carrying a pillion, sidecar etc etc
Depends when you did your bike test. I did my bike test in 94 when there was no theory test, when I came to take my car test this year, I did not need the car theory test.
I also had a lot of misinformation given to me about it, but the best way is to phone up the DVLA as if you were to book the test, give them your licence number and they will tell you if you need the theory test or not.

Ok Thanks for the replys ill get on to dvla by phone, Its for my son he passed his motorcycle theory a couple of months ago but he needs a car to carry his tools in , as his aprillia RS 125 is not suitable as you can imagaine.
THANKS AGAIN
SI
I did my car test in 1990 when there as no theory test and still had to do the bike test for a bike despite my car license giving me a full bike license (as long as it was a restricted 50!)
The general rule is that each class of vehicles has its own test.
You even have to do the same hazard percepton test even if you have already done it for another vehilce class!
YOGi is right - the two tests are different and so you have to take both if you want to drive both a car and bike.
+1 I did my car test 2 years ago and my bike test this year. Needed a theory test for each one… which seemed a little pointless because the bike theory is identical to the car other than one or two questions about pillions, and bike control etc. I think I had about 6 motorbike questions in my test :S The hazard perception is identical, same clips and everything. Although I suppose it’s only to test your hazard awareness skills, rather than if you know what a hazard would be on a bike or in a car…
Anyway, best of luck to your son on getting through his test
yep - you need both for both - You can practice free online for both - I only done my bike in august and every question was online! Got through with 50/50 my son done his car last month and he passed as well with 47.
I think the rules are a lot more complex than most people realise. Most people are just answering according to their own personal experience, but depends on when you took your test, how long you’ve had you licence and whether you were born when venus was in retrograde and have blue eyes.
As Elad says, the only way is to call the DVLA or use their website and try to book the test using your driver number. They will then tell you if you need to book. They will not allow you to book if you do not need the test.
