Helmet Stickers

I have a new Arai Corsair RX7 ‘Dani Pedrosa’ replica helmet, except due to copywrite rules, doesn’t have the ‘Red Bull’ motifs.

I was thinking of adding 2 stickers to the side to replicate the orginal.

What are peoples thoughts on adding stickers? Does it weaken the helmet? Or is it a problem if I slide down the road?

I would welcome your thoughts.

This is how it looks with stickers on the stand at the BMF;

Thats a nice looking lid that - I really like it…

I think it looks boss either with or without the stickers!

Might be difficult to get the stickers exactly right though - you’d need to cut them in half, where the sticker is where the visor is…

suprises me that Red Bull wouldnt allow a bit of advertising…?

Really tasteless, get a black one then you can be a blackhead! Who knows you might get a squeeze

Each to their own, but I already have a Black Arai Freeway, a White Astro R and a Blue Tour X…each used for different biking activities. Thought a race replica would make a change!

You can never have too many helmets, can you?

I was more worried about the effect of safety by adding stickers.

ive been told the whole issue with stickers was to do with them reacting with the helmet wasnt it? (chemicals that is)

tbh ive seen plenty of helmets with multiple stickers and none seem to have made any difference?

It’s only a problem if you put stickers on a polycarbonate (Lexan) helmet. These are usually the cheaper end of the market.

Arai lids are made from all sorts of lovely composites and as such you can put as many stickers on them as you wish:)

Sticker should not be an issue on your lid as its top quality, its the cheapy ones you have to watch, even then I’m not sure it makes a huge difference.

“google” redbull decal :

but you will need to cut it in half - its cheap enough to buy two or three to have many attempts

Ever met anyone with a melted face because they stuck stickers on their lid? It’s the old one armed schoolboy myth.

I’ve got a sticker on my Arai condor and I’ve been down the road in it. 3 times come to think of it but once where I bashed me noggin. Fine. Arai even x-rayed it and said it was OK to keep wearing it.

I presume you have evidence to support your claim that putting paint or stickers on a PC helmet is safe.

I suppose that as long as you avoid putting the sticker on the visor you will be fine :hehe::hehe::hehe:

No. Is the onus on me? I would have thought it was one someone else to provide proof positive.

OK.Before I did what i do now I spent 25 years working in the plastics industry and therefore I do have a modicum of experience in the polymer field.Polycarbonate is the generic name for names like Lexan and Perspex which are the materials that cheap lids are injection moulded.PC has a low chemical resistance to chemicals like acetate, acetone, benzene, ketones etc. which are often found in paints and sticker adhesives. It’s the easiest way to turn your lid into an eggshell;)

Well, that’s valuable information, but we were talking about arai corsairs. I didn’t make any assertions about polycarbonate lids either.

I suppose it depends on the adhesive used on a sticker. Will a 50p sized sticker on a lid really make a difference?

My comments were towards your reply and I quote"Ever met anyone with a melted face because they stuck stickers on their lid? It’s the old one armed schoolboy myth."I must have missed the bit where you specified what make of lid;)

So I take it slapping a LB sticker on my lid would be a bad idea then? :crying: It’s a HJC CL-14 Planet (from Infinity for £50 - student on a budget here :stuck_out_tongue: )

You have to evaluate the risk for yourself mate. Personally I’d stick the LB sticker on the bottom edge of the visor:)
