Cezar: ‘cockney’ is a Londoner born within the sounds of the Bow Bells, i.e., the bells of the St Mary-le-Bow church in Cheapside (Bow Lane). There’s now too much traffic noise for the sound to carry more than a couple of hundred meters if that, so the cockney area is dwindling.
If anybody works nearby, there’s a very nice lunch place in the crypt, called ‘The Place Below’.
Since you ask, there’s also something called a ‘mockney’; this is somebody pretending to be a cockney, hence ‘mock cockney’ aka ‘mockney’. A good example of a mockney is Jamie Oliver.
