Heathrow Lockers

Hi guys,

I’m going to Iceland on Wednesday and thinking about riding to the airport as there is free parking at the terminal, so I read. However what do you guys do with your kit? I’m thinking of throwing it all in a holdall and popping it at left luggage for the couple of quid it will cost?

Can’t get it all in the backbox sadly :frowning:

Spend the money on the locker. Much better than coming home and finding someone has boosted your top box and all your gear gone.

Also a bitch trying to get your travel insurance to pay out. They say you need to claim on your M/C policy, and the reverse and so on. If it’s not on your bike, it’s the travel insurance.

You sure that Heathrow still has left luggage lockers? I know a lot of this sort of thing was taken out of service during the “terrorists are about to strike” knee jerk borrocks following 9/11?.

Well I think I read they had a left luggage desk actually, I should probably check again.

Anyone know if the bays have anchors?

The BAA Heathrow website is a fairly authoritative source of Heathrow-related info, such as the following on left baggage:

"There are left baggage offices in each terminal at Heathrow. Baggage items can be stored for a few hours or up to 90 days. All items are security checked.

Charges are £6.50 per item per 24 hours (or part thereof).

Competitive unaccompanied baggage rates and services are available, and you can also buy luggage and travel accessories.

The service is operated by the Excess Baggage Company. Telephone +44 (0)20 8759 3344 or email [email protected] for more information.

Left baggage office locations
Terminal 1: Arrivals concourse, next to the lifts for Heathrow Express. Open 06:00 - 23:00.

Terminal 2: Near the Lufthansa check-in desk. Open 05:30 - 23:00.

Terminal 3: Departures, check-in zone C, opposite Turkish Airlines, open 06:00 - 22:00. Arrivals hall, near car hire desks, open 05:00 - 23:00.

Terminal 4: West end of the arrivals hall. Open 05:30 - 23:00.

Terminal 5: Arrivals concourse, UK arrivals end. Open 05:30 - 23:00.

This on motorcycle parking:

"Motorcyclists can park free of charge at Heathrow in dedicated motorbike parks. Riders should not use the car parking bays.

Motorcyle park locations

Terminals 1, 2 and 3: At the back of Short Stay Car Park 1A/5, to the right of the exit. Access is via Chester Road.
Terminal 4: Opposite the arrivals forecourt.
Terminal 5: Next to the short stay car park.
Please note that for security reasons, motorcycles will be removed if parked anywhere other than the designated areas."

Are you off to sort out the Icelandic banks?

Super helpful, thanks eez

Hehe no I’ll leave the financial heroism to someone else, I’m going to do some filming of an event out there as well as have a bit of a jolly.

I am however taking Euro’s as well as ISK, just in case

From what i remember the bike parking at heathrow is just a paved area with perhaps railings sepirating it from the road, if your lucky you might be able to get a wheel close enough to them to secure it, but expect it to be full of scooters. I would rather leave my bike at heathrow than central london for a day or two…

If you take a chain, there are plenty of places to chain your bike to at Heathrow. They’re not ground anchors. IIRC, they are rails (or perhaps I remember chaining to one of the many metal pillars that hold up the rood over the bike parking). Last time I went (around 6m ago) they were doing construction works which made it difficult to find the bike parking places (even with a map - they’d changed the traffic flows), but you’ll get there in the end.

Didn’t notice a particularly large number of scooters, if that’s in any way relevant.

Take a tent/sail/kit bag and stuff everything inside the one bag. O.K. They may caharge a little more for “large items” but it’s all in one place and it’s a good saving for little effort.

Got a dream deal with this at an exhibition a few months back when I checked in about twenty items in one huge sail bag.

Yeah was planning to take a big holdall and stuff it all in. Still haven’t decided between bike and train yet, will probably work that out about 10am tomorrow (the day I leave) It may depend on the weather somewhat, and how quickly I pack.

For what it’s worth, last time I went to Heathrow on the bike I took an old helmet and just wore waterproofs. Locked them in the top box and then didn’t stress while I was away. Didn’t lock the bike either. Can’t imagine they have too many bike thefts (don’t know statistics though) given the level of security and number of cameras in the vicinity.

I get on the 285 bus and I am there in 25 minutes, not that I tend to fly from there much. Usually Ryanair from Stanstead for financial reasons. Always find it a bit odd having to travel all that way when I have one on my doorstep.

£6.50 per day, thats bloody expensive. For that kinda price, you may as well leave the bike locked up safe at home and take a cab to Heathrow, probably end up cheaper depending on how long you’re going to be away and no worries about having to change at the airport.
