I must have read that wrong !
i use these http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pp4_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp4_1&pid=10471
they come standard with sony ericsson phones and i can’t feel a thing, good sound quality, and they plug straight into my ipod!!
I have on occasion, plugged my MP3 player into the Autocom unit and the sound from the speakers mounted in the helmet is great. This is obviously an expensive solution but what about one of the cheaper helmet kits for bike to bike or bike to pillion communication. I’ve seen them on e-bay for £15-20 and they remain fixed in the lining of the helmet. On the downside you will probably have to modify the lead to fit the MP3 player and the sound quality may not be that great when loud enough to be heard over a race can
thanks for the advice people. ill have a look at the suggestions, and let you know how i get on
Hi,
It depends what helmet, I can suggest Tesco’s Gummy headphones, tehy’re made of something that resembles jellybabies, nice and loud, and comfy as hell.
Anything ergonomic, Technics and Sony do a nice line (also, had both pairs from tesco)
iPod headphones are **** for inside helmets, and ofcourse - it does depend which helmet it is, i had a Shark RS-X - fitted to me by the Shark Rep, (so it fit, properly) and i could wear virtually any 'phones in comfort
Are you guys being serious?.. you need your ears to listen to those other road users who are trying to kill you.
I dont know about you guys but for me about 30% of my awareness is sound related, i can sort of tell you where the cars are around me by the sounds of their engine or brakes or music, or even windscreen wipers sometimes, (even been sprayed sometimes by having my visor open).
I just cant do it, i need total concentration on the road at all times, never had an off, and never want to, i need the ability to react quickly under certain situations, and i fear that listening to music, will only result in you not noticing the hazard and thus being too late.
Although im about to ride about 700 miles to Munich, i was considering buying an mp3 player for the journey, but im scared. imagine having an off, somewhere at 4am in a section of road where there’s no lighting, and no cars for miles, and it ends like that tarantino film “HOSTEL”. F*ck that ****.
my point exactly 666
the joy of riding is all about he smells, sights, feelings and sounds of a motorbike…and having some space and peace to think things through!
get in your car if you want music…then again why are there so many car crashes…due to not having your full attention on the road!!!..all that Bohemian Rhapsody head banging
you would’nt need head phones if you just rode back and forth between these
Oh come on, what is this? The United Soviet Republic of Bikerstanstanistan? If the fella wants to listen to music I’m sure he really appreciates you slagging him off for asking. Is a GPS any different? A radio when you are learning…?
I wear earplugs quite regularly - I’d rather save my hearing than be listening for traffic sounds I can’t hear anyway. Personally, having tried it, I use my ears below about 40-50mph, and above that I can’t hear sh!t. Which oddly enough means putting earphones in pointless if trying to listen to music.
Also, long URLs suck. Try these babies. Highly recommended. I have the Koss ones but they have a large base that hurts my ears over time. Foam is good for sealing your ears off from wind noise.
Migt also be worth getting ones that you can really properly clean, i mean you wouldnt stick a dirty cotton bud in your ears day after day after day after day…or would you
mr Gruntmon…not slagging anyone off…just that, with age comes knowledge!!!
other than that they can listen and make their own choices…as we all do…but we would feel terrible if something happened and we hadnt warned them
and i hate to say i told you so…so i wont
thanks for the advice people, ill buy some and let you know how i get on.
and i appreciate the concern, genuinely i do, but i know the dangers and have been commuting for 10 years, and am getting bored with my singing!!!
Singing…is that what that noise is…we thought you were in pain…
you dont know the half of it tricksie - u obviously heard my barbie girl on karaoke…
…both voices, high and low!!!
ohhhhhh my ears, the pain…oh the pain
please make him stop…
when i have to do more distance/motorways, music is awesome to keep me from getting bored/switching off.
So a year later…
was going to post a new question but found this thread. You don’t have to have both earpieces in and if you do, they don’t have to be on full blast. I wouldn’t trust myself listening to fast tracks on it… i’d end up being flashed at.
I get so bored and singing doesn’t cut it. I keep singing ‘go your own way… go your own wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy’ fleetwood mac but forget the word. I love driving to music and I’ve managed not to kill, hit or nearly cause accidents so far. So any more recommendations?
Instead of headphones, you can also get waterproof speakers that bolt onto the fairing/handlebars. They’re about £25…can’t remember where from though.
Otherwise, get a pair of flat headphones, take off the plastic hoop, glue a piece of velcro on the back of the headphones (the scratchy side of velcro) and sew the fluffy velcro side to where your ears rest in the helmet.
