Header/manifold problems - Rusty nuts/studs...

Hi guys, relatively new here, and need advice/help, just brought myself a yamaha r6 2003, it was stored for a quiet a long time and has a few spots that are rusty, but what can you expect with an 11 year old bike, anyways i’ve noticed my headers were a bit rusty so i thought i will take them off and give them a good clean: I ended up looking at rusty nuts/studs that deteriorated especially in the middle, here are a few pics to let you know what I’m talking about; Btw only one garage were willing to help, one guy said to leave it as it is, the other said it took him 2 days to sort something like that out, so no! And finally the last garage said that they are willing to help out but its going to take them 4hrs and if they break them, the engine needs to be taken out, oh plus the £180-200 labour… :frowning:

If anyone could advice me a garage that won’t overcharge and do a good job in London … Or any other recommendations, would appreciate it a lot, Thanks!

My specalist subject … the stubborn fastner and the beyond repair fix …They are ugly but I have seen worse . You need someone who has delt with that before and knows exactly what they are doing …But even then there would be no gruntiees that they will all come out and look good . High chance of needing some new studs once your finished … I doubt the engine would need to come out unless there is an issue with clearance for tools . If I had the time I would have a go at them but my work load is stacked up into a huge wobbly tower as it is . I would be looking at 150 - £200 for that job too and I think 4 hours is an underestimate … that could easy run into a marathon session .

I wouldnt say thats over priced, it could be a big job and a pain in the arse.

Id say, unless it NEEDs it, Id leave it as it is.
If its just a case of tidying it up…

Get all the surface rust off, cover what you can up with newspaper etc and give them a coat of paint.

Cheers for the info guys, if I leave it as it is. the only concern is: would it fall off one day while im riding about? I really don’t want this to happen :hehe:

if you cant push your finger through the rust or wobble the headers loose, i wouldnt worry. you probably have more chance of num num getting pregnant… :hehe:

haha yeah probably leave it till they do start moving…
