Head lights

ok that may seem like such a stupid question but I’ve always wondered.

Why do I see some bikes that have like a split headlight and only one of the light works. I’ve seen it way too often for it to be a blown bulb. Are bikes not allowed to have two head lights???

most bikes will have one bulb on for dipped beam, and the other only comes on when on full beam

Well that makes sense.

Yeah it’s just the design. My CBR has different patterns on the lenses too I think. It does look better with both ablaze though but that would require riding everywhere on main beam.

My bike has low beam on left and high beam on right. I thought it looked silly so I lowered the high beam quite a bit and ride with both of them on during the day.

dont have that prob :stuck_out_tongue:

I though it didnt look bad on the R6 when I had mine to be honest when your riding you don’t see it much!! the R1 has both that light up which makes it look a little boss eyed!! but then I dont see them much either…

Two working dipped lights TFW IMO!

My VTEC has the best lights I’ve ever had - lower two for dip and when you switch to main the top two come on as well so you have all four. Some people on the VFR forum have fitted HID kits as well, that must be astounding but you risk igniting hedges and things as you go past, I expect.

i ride with both on, makes me more visible to cagers…so do my bright red leathers!!

I’ve added a relay to the loom (common trick for Sprint RS/ST/Tigers) and both lights come one. Also covered the right lens in yellow film as it makes the bike stand out more when filtering for oncoming traffic. Bulbs are 65/100W so just that bit brighter which does make a difference. I DO NOT ride on with mains on. That is plain daft.

+1 and annoying too when in front of said mains! I CAN’T SEE!!!

Disagree - I use mains on during the day, at night in traffic use dips / mains on the open road.

Mains on in filtering is vital so they attract the attention in car wing mirrors - I never get dazzled by oncoming mains in daylight…

Someone with their mains on BEHIND me i find a royal pain in the backside, cant see anything past the bike behind, thanks mate! There ya go, i’ll pull over for ya, carry on.
And just love a bike filtering on full beam, blinding everyone,
IMHO of course

+1.

If someone comes up behind me with mains on (daytime included) when filtering, I pull my mirrors in to avoid being blinded as my forward vision is more important to me than knowing what’s going on behind. Good luck if you try and overtake me…:stuck_out_tongue:

I never get blinded from behind because you can see **** all in a D675’s mirrors.

But didn’t realise I was blinding other bikers as , unlike rear view mirrors in a motor , it is easy to duck them and not have them in line of sight…:doze:

However I will change my rotten ways and dip with a bike in front but main if it’s just cars/vans ---- make the buggers SEE me

I have seen a big difference if car awareness between dips and mains when filtering especially in motorway filtering - heart stoppers drop to be almost negligible

I’ll consider using mains on daylight motorway filtering for the reasons you give, but yes please - don’t use in ordinary daylight situations - it is terrible when a bike filters behind you with mains on!
