Am looking into getting a large sports tourer in particular a busa,
I want a large bike that’ll just soak up the miles if I want to do a long Europe trip?
I’ve got no experience with hayabusas so am looking for any views/ experiences on them good or bad, or any alternative bikes? Am probably looking for something around the 2003 model busa!
So any comments appreciated also any thing other than the norm to look out for when buying?
It’s true that if you’re tall the Busa could feel cramped but there are ways to give alittle more room like bar riser kits,Heli bars and Buell footpegs.
The only other issue with the Busa is the standard brakes which can feel alittle vague but easily fixed with braided lines and Bendix pads.
Adam, I sold mine because it was too small. I had Buell footpegs which give an extra inch and a half legroom but the seat is very low. It’s quite long so you lay over the tank well enough but your legs are cramped. It’s also got great weather protection, even when its raining the shape of the tank and fairings keeps rain off your legs and boots.
I used it to go to the Alps one year then Spain/Andorra last year and it was totally reliable, fast, smooth etc. The front brakes have very little feel and the callipers need regular maintenance - if I had another one I’d change the brakes.
I’ve got a V-Strom 1000 now with an extra inch in the seat, modified suspension and GSXR brakes and it’s fantastic for long distance touring but ultimately boring . . . the busa was awesome, I’d have another one tomorrow if I could get a bit more room on it without sitting too high.
Blackbirds more roomy than 'busa’s, plenty of go, good value, ideal for long distance 600+miles in a day, good luggage carrying, 200 miles per tank, just put risers on and a double bubble screen, 12v socket, satnav and away you go
Right, ive been looking through a lot of bikes and I think it has gotta be a busa that I get! I went to Spain and back on a k4 gixxer 600 with a 60l Bergen on my back, so I can manage the crampedness! None of the other bikes I’ve been looking at really flick my switch,
Are there any known engine issues when they get up around 40-50 thou??
Adam you will feel pain man… I was out on the Busa for a few hours on Saturday and came back hurting…not just aching but in pain lol.
My legs were cramped to bugger, I’m used to horse riding too even with short stirrups but the leg position on the Busa isn’t good (maybe that’s why short fatties get on well with them) :D:D:D. I don’t know how long hmmm even normal legged people ride them in comfort, give me my K9 anyday!
A mate at work has one! It’s nice to ride and great fun but all the points TDJ has mentioned are true! Pluss it’s fugly looking down the bike from the rear!
On a serious note. I’m only 5’11" and not 11 feet tall like Adam and I find the Busa comfy but … leg ache as even I find it a bit cramped on my 600 mile trips up north.
I’ve got a Busa, and am 6ft4 - I don’t really have much trouble with it - long hauls often take their toll on people our size, that said I found the Busa more comfy than the ZX12R, the Blackbird was OK - got to say compared to the unfaired bikes I usually ride I’ve swopped neck ache for leg ache.
Reckon the new model Busa’s are pretty ugly looking, mine is a 99 pre restricted one and the looks have grown on me. Oh and I’ve jacked it up a little. Small tweaks can make a big difference. But the proof is in the pudding - have you ridden any yet?
