Hundreds of hauliers are travelling to London to demonstrate against the rising cost of fuel
It would be nice if we could do something like that:

i wonder how much fuel tax revenue this demonstration will generate for the govt?
Not today!!! We are leaving to go to Brands in a bit, wont be going through town now!
+1 with Lusty. I’d go.
Imagine the chaos if we could organise a go slow round the M25 ! Mind you - goinbg slow on a motorbike? That could be a new experience!
I know that Tobi mentioned us doing something like this… Maybe we could speak to all the bikers/clubs that we know and see if we can actually make this happen?
Unless this directly affects the people in government you will gain nothing apart from a fuel bill. The fact that the government is making LOADS of cash means they are not going to do anything fast if at all.
The sad truth of the matter is we have to just smile and carry on paying these price for the foreseeable period.
The downside of this is that affects the people on lower incomes and who need the cars and bikes to travel to work; again politicians are not affected as they get an allowance.
Sad and probably true. BUT it did work for the BMF when they protested about bikes not paying the Toll for the Dartford Tunnel…
If we don’t try, we won’t get. Look at the French, at least they are prepared to make a stand and not bend over and take it.
The Dartford toll one direct affected the toll company and that caused them to back down but it does show that people power works, if people want to get thier message across and i include the trucks and cars in this as well as bikers, it has to be carried directly to westminster.
Now if you grid lock that area ( more so than normal) the elected people will get the message. By making the M25 go slow you just p*ss off joe public, bring westminster to a stop now that will do for a start.

The current fuel crisis goes deeper than taxation - it’s about a finite, diminishing resource not meeting soaring demand (partly due to massive increases in consumption by India, China etc in the last decade). This crisis is not going to go away - prices are going to increase and this will radically affect the way we all live our lives - lifestyle expectations that emerged in the 1960’s and were predicated on cheap oil (cheap individual transport, cheap air travel, cheap exotic produce in supermarkets) will come to an end.
I’m totally pissed off about this as it poses a threat to my ability to hoon about on my bike relatively cheaply - something which I and I’m sure you guys have got used to doing.
I would be totally happy to be proved wrong on this one - in fact I would welcome it - as it means that I can continue to enjoy the cheap oil economy along with the rest of you - but I have a gut feeling that we are entering the early stages of the long predicted oil crunch.
Indeed lusty, but look at the poor state of the French economy, and its high unemployment levels, France is trying to shake off its old system of protesting and staunch employee rights, slowly but surely.
This may be a bit of a bitter pill to swallow, but oil is a depleting natural resource, it’s not going to run out anytime soon but eventually it will, whether we like it or not a scarce resource is going to be expensive, the less of it there is, the more expensive it becomes.
Our western governments are doing their best to keep prices low, believe it or not, and in doing so causing the suffering of innocent people, lets not forget that the on-going situation in Iraq was purely oil driven…
the answer is not more oil but maybe investing in research to find an alternative.
and if it all fails, there are always horses to take around race tracks ![]()
i dont have a problem with the price of the oil, its the frankly insane amount of tax the government charge for it. Plus the tax they charge on the tax on the price of the fuel!!!
Sid your spot on theres more to this than just Tax, this is a global issue and this is not going to go away over night
+1 steve
and how nany more times are we just gonna bang on about this ? We (hauliers) keep trying and its about time JOE PUBLIC woke up to the fact its the TAX that the govt keep slapping on is the reason the price is so high.
Why are so many BRITISH haulage companies going bust and johnny foreigners doing OUR deliveries ? Because they FILL up abroad cheaper then sod off back to get more cheap fuel.
makes me mad, but its been this way for years, when I did continental driving years ago we were only allowed 200 litres into germany but they could come here with a 1000, fair trade my ar$e
rant over from one very pi$$ed of BIKER and TRUCKER
As the only part of Uk that shares a border with another EU country, most border garages in Northern Ireland had to close, as people could just nip a mile down the road into the Republic of Ireland, and get it ALLOT cheaper.
A friend of mine is involved with this site http://www.britainsrevolting.co.uk/php/index.php
They have a forum for organising protests and also telling you what’s already been organised if you want to join in with something already. Dave wouldn’t be involved in anything illegal or dodgy so have a look and join in with them.
You dont have to do anything illegal for them to sit up and take notice, this issue is killing companies and raising the cost of food. what gets my back up is the fact that Food and Fuel and not taken into the Inflation calculation and therefore the real figure is a lot higher.
Two lots of tax:
Diesel @ £1.28 per litre breaks down to:
Diesel cost 46p
Retailers margin 12p
Vat 20p
Fuel duty ( Tax) 50p
Now I know carbon based fuels are diminishing and we have to look at VIABLE alternatives ( not just alternatives that mask the problem like using electricity and bio fuels). But honestly - Road license ( tax), Vat ( on parts as well as fuel), (tax), Fuel duty ( tax), all of these taxes paid from an income that has already been subject to income tax? Where does all this money go to? Research into alternatives, maintainance of the road infrastructure? Think how much fuel is wasted in traffic jams?
Personally I think we’re a soft target as motorists - 2400 convictions on the A23 last week - I know it’s good that car drivers are penalised for using mobile phones and not wearing seatbelts - but easy money via tax or minor prosecutions seems to be the most useful use for our keepers of the peace at present ( no doubt directed by the people we vote in to govern us) - now look - i’ve started ranting about everything!!
More power to the hauliers - they’re being forced out of business by European hauliers as they can’t compete, and haulage affects all of us, should we be encouragung imports from far away countries by foreign companies? How is that going to help diminishing global resources?
My local Waitrose is selling asparagus, in season here - from Peru!! What’s that all about??
OK, nurse I’ll stop now
(Sorry for adulterating your words, M-D, but I do agree with everything that you did say, and you said it so well. I just thought it needed a little “tweaking”
)
