Has anyone ridden....

a zx12r? and if so what are your thoughts? what kind of bikes does it compare to (R1, hyabusa eyc etc etc)? are they reliable? lol saw one in the memebers bike section and it has now been put on my list of “bikes to own a couple years down the line”

cheers in advance

Shin:D

Tested one once; surprised me a) by how focussed they are b) how top-endy they are c) how much I loved it.
HOWEVER when you count in tyre/chain costs, plus fuel economy, they are VERY expensive to run. I would love one if it wasn’t for that. Just a little bit bigger than a litre sports, still OK handling, and feels very quick. I’d say its a cross between a Blackbird and an R1.

Had one for 6 years till 2007 when I traded it for a Hornet, purely financial reasons. Not cheap to run, servicing and consumables add up quite high.

Saying that would have another one tomorrow,in green of course, quick bike, handles well for a big beast, carries a pillion with no bother.Absolutely loved my one and was very sad to see it go.:crying:

a good mate of mine has one in…green!

ansolute beast, i went pillion on it once, scared the crap out of me!!

he loves it tho!! hes not an LB memeber tho, SP is he has one, and knows his stuff, he may well see this, if not PM him.

I’ll be after a ZX12 in a few years when the ZX9 finally dies (gonna see if I can get it to 150k before it falls over ).

hello everybody, iam 22 yrs old and i own a zx12r fooc me it is by far the most amazing bike i have ever ridden, everything from her looks to the sheer power of 174 raging horses at the back wheel 6th gear roll on will take you from 90 to 120 within the blink of a nats japs eye,and off the line 0-60 is about 2.9 secs i love it but dont quite know wer to go next if you know what i mean harry, thanx a bunch.:w00t:

ZX12R . . . ah, that’s the ladies version of the Hayabusa isn’t it ;):stuck_out_tongue:

very fast bike

If by Ladies you mean hairy-chested types who actually want their bike to handle semi-reasonably, then yes

Whatever kind of ‘lady’ does it for you . . . .;):stuck_out_tongue:

Hey, don’t knock it … :D:D

And stop when you need it too :stuck_out_tongue:

I went from ZX9 F2 to ZX12 B6F to ZZR1400 ABS

I loved the ZX12 - very very quick - handles like a sports bike - comfortable riding position - just a larger version of the ZX9. I like the ZZR but despite being even quicker it is more Sports Tourer than the ZX12. Believe it or not I bought the ZZR to slow myself down a bit.

Sadly missed:-

ladies version of a busa? your havin a laugh considering the busa got all the aesthetic beauty of a beached whale chewing on a used tampon,i heard busa riders are the type of ppl who weake up in the morning and punch their there own grannys for petrol money :stuck_out_tongue:

I test rode both the zx12 and the Busa before buying a Busa, weren’t a lot in it to be honest, the ZX12 is a beauity and very quick but the busa nicked it with a more comfortable riding position FMP.

I’ve just bought a zx12r - just like the black & gold one above.

Test rode a busa and couldn’t get on with it. After years of hype, I was surprised to be disappointed. Throttle felt a bit gutless until you hit the very upper revs, plenty fast in a straight line. The bike hated going near corners, and ahd no engine braking to speak of. Also drained half a tank in no time at all, so bugger all use on a long run! To be honest it just felt like a big engine with moonshot gearing, placed into a bike that was purely designed to facilitate nothing more. After an hours ride, I was wanting to turn back and hand the keys in.

I then tried the zx12 and it’s the perfect touring missile I was looking for. Nimble (compared to a busa), large & comfy, tons of drive, and it’s got the looks. Still a thirsty bike, but it all comes together to make a great package for the road. I’ve never been a kwaka fan (preferring Suzuki’s), but this I like. Good build quality too.

Now, let’s see what it does when you take it out of standard form!

Strewth, all the ladies come out to play when you mention their bike

How can you say a Busa isn’t attractive when the front of the ZX12 looks like a bottom feeder fish which has had a beating :stuck_out_tongue:

Busa does handle rather well with the right tyres, it really surprised me, I wore out a toe slider in Andorra a few weeks ago and that was 2 up :w00t::smiley:

I was only joking obviously, I’m sure the ZX12 is a fine bike but for 2 up the busa is a bit more comfortable.

i dont disagree i know its hard work carrying pillion on the z like one thing that seperates the 2 bikes is the steering head angle on the zx is a lot steeper which gives the bike a sportier feel and better corneringbut at slow speeds it can become a chore i find as im constantly on my wrists, but reliability, build quality just awesome:)

to be exact steeper steering angles mean faster turn in not neccesarily better cornering…it all depends upon the speed the corner and the method of riding…steeper sterring geometry makes bikes feel flighty and unstable and can put some people off…ususally the more relaxed riders like the busa because of this…horses for courses…I loved my zx 10 because it was so flighty…

I’m 22 with an 08 R1. I think it’s about 165-170bhp (not sure) and it goes like nothing I’ve ever ridden - although I’ve not had a blast on a zx12r!!

I thought about the ‘hyperbikes’ but the R1 is that little bit narrower (for Hackney traffic) and it handles far better than my previous Duc 748.

I’d definitely recommend the 07/08 R1 as your next bike, sh*t for pillion but other than that it’s animal. I’ve seen them selling for £5k-6k and they’ll probably get cheaper over the winter.

Compared to older 1000s I’ve used it’s in a different league. I’d imagine it’s on par with zx12r but with the weight & size of a pre 2007 600.

Anyways - great bike - highly recommended.
