Has anyone had part of their handle bar come off whilst riding?

Right, Sunday morning, weather cleared up, go for a ride out.

Doing some of the lanes near Harlow, the throttle handle bar slips out and it become lose!!

Lucky i wasn’t going made, i can imagen i would have feel off the bike. Has this happened to anyone else?

However, ihave raise handle bars, and i wanted to see if anyone know what i need to fix it?? It looks like i need a bolt (which broke) inside the bar. Not to sure how to dismantle it theough to put it back in (see pics attached).

Any idea??

WOW! i fear for my SV now! I’ve got no advice but lucky you:w00t:

Jeez!!!

That could have been nasty, glad you managed to keep it all in shape:)

I’ve never known a bar just come out like that. They look like aftermarket jobs.

I’d be inclined to renew the bolt on the laft one too:cool:

The bolt BROKE OFF! bloody hell! You are so lucky! If the bolt is broken off in the bar then I guess you’re best bet is to take the bar off and take it to a bike/engineering shop that can extract it/drill it out. To do this you will have to take the switch gear off (easy - a couple of screws) and take the throttle cables off - you’ll see the throttle cables attached to the throttle sleeve when you take the switch gear casing apart - slacken the throttle cables at the bar end and see if this gives you enough freeplay to slip them off - if it doesn’t then you will need to slacken the throttle cables at the throttle body (located under the airbox).

I know, the more i think about it, the more i think it could have been worse.

I t drop the bike a month ago on that side, so maybe the impact could have weakened the bolt?

Just spoke to someone at HG at Gants Hill, who looked at it yesterday, and he said i need a new bar? Does that sound correct?

There is more than a good chance that your “drop” did cause the bolt to fail.

Whereabouts are you?

Thats what i thought! I live about 10mins away from BCR meet up point. Near Hainault station.

I’m going to check all my bolts are tight tonight! :ermm:

Must be all the wheelies your doing!!:stuck_out_tongue:

I was overtaken by my own end bar once!!

That could’ve been really nasty :w00t: might be worth checking all nuts/bolts are secure

had a quick butchers and me nuts are fine…phew

You never mentioned your bolts “Frankie”;)

More than likely that agricultural vtwin engine and all the vibrations caused the problem

On a serous note, pleased it didnt end in tears for you.

Oi…at least I dont need a mirror to check my nuts out :stuck_out_tongue:

I once had a bar-end fall off at about 100mph and it hit my shin. Luckily I was wearing leathers but it still hurt!

Nice come back 000

I can diet but you will always be a Butt Ugly Muppet;)

HARSH but true mate…you win this round :P:D

Hey  Glad you’re ok, sounds scary! The bikes quiet new isn’t it? Does it have any warranty still valid on it, never know might a manifactoring thing??? (Although dropping it might not have helped) I dont really know anything about bikes but if the bike is new(ish) might be worth looking into?

I’ve got a new battery out of Honda this morning and my bike is nearly 2 years old!!
