Eh ? If Hammond was interviewing Evil in his prime he’d have been doing it in a school uniform ! 
There is no way he was in his prime. In fact, although an enjoyable programme EK came across as rather a sad old man intent on keeping his legend alive after it’s sell by date.
Obviously a great showman and a hero to many of us who grew up in the 70’s;)
I meant them showing clips of him in his prime dipsticks !! lol and yes he did come across like that chunks which was a shame, still made a lot of money from his spectacular failures though. I enjoyed it anyhow 
I thought it was a great interview, and clearly EK wasn’t a well man. Nor particularly keen to revisit aspects of his past.
The more I see Hammond, the more respect I have for him as a presenter.
A very good, interesting and ‘real’ documentary of someone the likes of which we simply will never know again.
Those crashes FFS, wasn’t there any padding in those suits? And he looked like he was riding in office shoes :-o
Yeah, good programme that. Quite sad though, especially when you see those who used to work with him look so healthy & there is a little frail old man. But the body can only take so much punishment I guess. I agreed what he said about that other chaps jump at the Knievel weekend, it cleared that dirt ramp by at least 10ft, piece of **** 
Despite all of his flaws so many of us still find/found him to be a complete hero.
i enjoyed the programme but also found it a bit disappointing. i guess trying to interview a dying man isn’t going to be an easy job!
although i don’t remember the wembley jump i do remember when the evel knievel toy came out.
along with james hunt and barry sheene the man was a legend to me.
Interesting interview and I agree although he does come across as a bit of a sad old man he will always be Evel Kneivel, showman extraordinairre!
One question though, did he have a major contract/sponsorship deal with Harley?
I mean how many times do you have to bounce off of a Harley flattracker(?) on landing to realise that the damn thing has no rear suspension and is probably not the right tool for the job?!? :w00t:
Good program, though sometimes it’s better to remember heros as they were, not as they are. Evel was obviously a man with an ego that worked against him. For his talents, he was also vulnerable. A sad program really. Hammond did a good job as always.
i enjoyed the program but it was obvious he didn’t like some of the questions.hammond was great and u could obviously see he was a hero to him.those bikes were heavy then but there wasent a great amount of choice in those days.can u imagine the stunters now doing it on a heavy bike like that with no power.
Perhaps we could ask MacP as he seems to have an affinity to such machines ;);)

I read a bio of his a few months ago, can’t remember to nitty gritty (it’s too early in the morning) but he did have some sort of agreement with Harley, I think he rode something before he hit it big though, some equally as cumbersome though.
Were there any decent alternatives back then? I always said the same thing though “why is trying to jump on that cr*ppy lump of a bike, probably weighs about a ton”
Course there were alternative bikes in them days, There were crossers like CR500’s in them days but good Ole Evil was an All American Hero as much as Elvis and Col. Sanders.

I confess I thought the same - he lands at 70mph on a hard tail motorcycle and seems surprised it bounced higher than his head!
