Well as per the title i thought i would make a post to let everyone know about Halfords doing their 150 Piece professional tool kit for 90 quid, follow the link, reserve it online to pick up in store and theres a 10% discount applied, Decent toolkit has everything i will need for a while, word of warning though, dont do what i did, turn up at the store with a rucksack and expect it to fit, Its quite large and weighs something like 30kg, Balancing it on the tank for the ride home wasent much fun.
Now i have no more excuses for not doing all the basic stuff myself…
Brillant bit of kit. pretty much all my stuff is the professional stuff … life time gaurantee and the quality of the stuff isnt bad ethier. i only ever need to bring that out when working on the bike becuase it has everything i would need.
everyone would love snap on … this stuff is close but alot more cheaper. no drawbacks so far
A WORD OF WARNING: Halfords promote their ‘Professional’ range of products under the misleading banner of “Lifetime guarantee”.Now to most people, the word lifetime has what would seem a fairly obvious meaning.
Unfortunately, Halfords have their own misinterpretation of it. But they’re not too keen to share it with joe public. Hence the lack of information about it on the packaging.
Basically, they base their ‘guarantee’ on the typically expected useful life of a tool.
For example, when I returned a 17 year old 15mm socket that had split down the side (complete with original receipt!), they refused to exchange it. When I pursued this through head office, they stated that in their opinion the typical life of a tool is around 11 years.
However, they refused to give me any details of their limited ‘lifetime guarantee’ in writing to support their smokescreen, preferring instead to keep in place the veil of deception shrouding their policy.
Further, the ‘lifetime guarantee’ does not cover ratchet wrenches, ratchet spanners, or any other tool with moving parts.
Having said all this, if you’re happy to accept that the guarantee is time limited, then 90 quid for all that kit is still a great price… I just prefer people who I do business with to be upfront and above board.
That’s why they are known as Halfrauds. The non-coverage of moving parts is pretty clearly set out on the documentation in store and on the website. The only thing stopping me buying the set at the moment is that I really don’t want the about 10Kg of non-metric sockets. I know it is still good value, but already have a set of cheap AF sockets I have not used for 20 years.
I’ve got this set. I bought mine for 100 quid a few months ago. I nearly killed myself lugging it home on the bus though. So far it’s had everything I’ve ever needed, I don’t do any major maintenance though.
Oups I was about to go get it but I just read this? I am not familiar with tools to be honest and till now I didn’t realise there were metric and imperial tools. I have a Yamaha YZF600R, being Japanese, it’s a (very) metric bike AFAIK. Are you saying that I won’t be able to use these tools on my bike?
I bought something like this about 10 years ago, think I paid about £40 for it in a sale. The sockets are fine but the ratchets are cheap and nasty, just buy a couple of nice ratchets and you’re done. It’s fine for home use.
Have a look too on mcn ninjas, I’m sure I saw a chap suggesting he could get professional stuff for 75% off, I guess if you’re willing to give him some cash up front and wait a bit you’d get somehting far better for a similar price.
I got one too for my son about 2 years ago…not a bad set at all…the small ratchet multi angle thingamyjig, which I mnever knowthe name of…broke first time it was used but otherwise excellent value…
haven’t got the set with me so cant check at the moment, but i’m pretty sure the halfords guy is talking through his arris.
all the outer sockets on the left half of the base tray are metric, and all the ones on the right hand side are their imperial equivalents (which have never left their tray spots…apart from when ginger opened the case the wrong way up on the trackday! :hehe: )
The ratchet spanners are metric, but half the sockets, which is a substancial part of what is here, are AF. Look at it in store and you will see. I was going to buy one but didn’t want all that stuff I am unlikly to use.
My 12mm socket broke last year, took it to my local Halfords in Catford and they changed it no questions asked. Have had the set for over 7 years and didnt even buy it from Catford. As the store manager said to me, you are always nice to us and come across as someone who likes doing your own work on your bike and have never been pushy with us, as a result I am always happy to help you out. They also give me very good discounts as I go there a lot.
