Haggling on a brand new bike

Especially as the YEN is getting stronger at the moment.

Just be mindful some finance companies and some banks will charge you for early repayment... Serrisan

Yes last time I used finance and paid it off early there was a cancellation fee of about £500, probably a lot more these days, you should check carefully before signing up, I was fobbed off with “Of course you can settle early it won’t cost much”.

As for paying cash these days, I use electronic banking and can pay up to £20k, same day transfer, with no anti money laundering questions.
And last time I bought a new bike for cash it was Christmas 2012 and the dealer came up with a nice offer so long as I did the transfer before year end even though I was getting the new bike in Jan 2013, so yes he obviously had a month end or year end target to meet.

It’s always worth having a go, I’d ring several dealers and go for the one that wants to deal the most. I’m always amazed at how dozy and useless some dealerships can be.
Then go in and have a chat and also get to see the bike, or a least the order book so you know when they are due to get the bike from Yamaha.

Two dealers I’ve used recently…

http://www.motorcyclesdirect.co.uk/   (aka Llyod Coopers, they don’t list new Yamaha’s on the web site but they might be able to get you one, worth a chat)
http://www.westlondonyamaha.co.uk/

And one dealer that said they could get the bike (2012 R6) but kept stalling as they patently could not get it.
Then they tried to sell me a 2011 R6!

Webbs in Peterborough are excellent and will deliver to you free of charge.

^^ Wot they said ^^    Dealt with Lloyd Cooper & West London before, & heard good things about Webbs also.  I know of the ‘other’ dealer mentioned and have heard similar  :frowning:

End of the day, I might be doing a lot of work in Scotland at the moment, but bought a few bikes from different dealers in my younger days growing up there.  Never had a great experience at any of them and there was always some aspect of their service or the prep of the bike that ended up leaving a sour taste in my mouth.  Always thought WTF am I paying a dealer premium to receive Gumtree service?  Less dealers up there = less competition to keep each other in-check.  My experiences of London dealers has been much better.  Generally they do what they say they’ll do.
