You would have thought fitting an R&G crash bung set to a street triple would be simple. 4 bolts, replace one at a time… job done… who’s for tea?!
First one removed quite simple, other three were REALLY REALLY tough to loosen. Problem is that the front two (2 closest to front of bike) keep spinning! I’ve also tried to tighten them with no luck. Really pissed off.
Did I do anything wrong? I mean, a bolt is a bolt isnt it? How else would Triumph or anyone else have undone it?
Is there something I’m missing? or has the thread got some sort of housing in the frame, and that is what has come undone? If so, is it my fault, or is it something I should complain about?
Is this something that can be sorted pretty easily??
Theyre spinning in the same position as I try to undo them, and the same when I try to tighten them?
Cant get my hand in to see if there’s any sort of fixing behind?
Followed the R&G instructions to a ‘t’, but it just says to undo them! Out of the 4 that need removing, the back two spin out ok, without a problem, but they’re chromed ones and right on the surface, so I dont know if the difficult 2 are housed the same?
dont know your bike that well but on the r1 the upper mounts are normal threads, and the engine mounts have a split housing that expands and grips the surrounding hole in the frame when the bolt moves through it (kinda like the metal equiv of a wall raw plug i suppose)you have to be a bit careful the way you start doing the thread up to make it grip enough that the bolt will turn in the housing, and not make it spin
maybe check the instructions to see if its that type/check with the dealer? if so maybe pull the bolt towards you before trying to turn it, it may be enough to grip.
I mounted some bungs on my Speed Triple, and the front engine mount bolts thread into nuts on the other side of the mounting lugs, rather than the lugs themselves being threaded.
Maybe the Street Triple is similar? The nuts are a right bugger to get to, but with a bit of patience and a few of your favourite swear words, it’s not too bad.
Ditto on my 1050 Sprint ST. The engine mounting bolts had a nut on the back end. It was a right bugger getting a spanner in there. My knuckles still bear the scars. Good luck with it.
Cheers guys, i’ll have a look in the morning. Sorry i didnt get back earlier - i’ve been as sick as a dog since monday night, so xmas has been spent laid out! bummer.
