GSXR 1000 vs 750 vs 600

After my 1000 got hit I put down a deposit on the new 1000K7 almost immediately, but in the meantime got thinking about whether I really want/need a 1000 again. Then yesterday I took Ness’s new 600 out for a spin on a couple of my local racetra… errr, roads. Even though the bike is still being run in (i.e. kept it below certain revs) it was a LOT more fun than my 1000 with suspension sorted for my weight. I never thought the difference in handling could be that much between the two - I reckon that if I had to ride the two back to back through the Pirbright Bends, I would be significantly quicker on the 600 (and safer!). Part of the reason for this is how quickly it turns, but I also loved being able to wind the throttle on with the bike still banked right over and not have to worry about getting big air. I’m starting to (finally) understand that the 1000 is actually too much for the road - can’t believe I just wrote that!

I haven’t gone and done all the research yet, but I’ve believe that the 600 and 750 have exactly the same chassis, and that the 600 has a sleeved down 750 motor… Not sure though. Anyway, if the 750 handles like the 600 but has just a little more grunt low down, that is going to be my next bike! Unless Suzuki have chopped 5 more kilos off the 1000… no, no, no, no, I want a 750!

(repeat to myself: don’t need a 1000, need a 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750, 750…)

Personal opinion here, the 750 is the better all rounder of the bunch. Power is way more usable than on the thou and it handles like a 600 with a few more ponies in your right hand. If I could get one free, I would have one.

The 750 is a immensly awesome bike. Go for it, try something different, you won’t be any slower, infact, you’ll probably be faster! Cheaper insurance and tax as well.

on the run to southend my 750 k4 managed to stay level with an r1 up to around the ton mark only then did the extra cc make any difference, (or was it adam h running out of road that made us both back off!!!)

and i was on my gsxr 600!!

throwing round the roundabouts!! and whanging it on the straights!!

not a 750 or a 1000 could be seen in my mirrors!! and they def wheren’t in front!!

had to keep pulling over and waiting!!

i was thinking about getting the k7 750 but might wait till the k8 as the only difference next year is the colours!! and the fact that i still cant get the full potential out of the 600!! not speed wise but overall riding!

Plus, you still need to work out how to use the brakes, eh Adam

what brakes??? i know how to BREAK it but not sure what your on about with these brake thingys?

so how did we end up last then adam???

is it because we went round every roundabout 3 times with you getting your knee down??

I am liking what i am hearing, all being well i should be getting meself 750 k4 in march next year

Ade

heres my k4 and my old slingshot which i have just sold

well thats good danno i wasnt even using all the throttle let alone going to the stop as my bike ****s the life out of me on acceleration, the voice of reason kicks in and says “thats enough” i bought mine for looks and the LTD edition factor, i know its fast and one day i will find out how but for the minute im happy going as fast as MR reason allows,

Use the capacity of a thou on the road and you’ll either die or end up in jail, pronto. They’re too quick for the bloody track, never-mind the road!

had both 750 and thou gixxers, I love my thou

Yes I can’t ride it to it’s potential and have been embarassed by your missus (ness) on her Sv on the corners but I love the power it has on all revs.

I went to France with a TL1000R and a GSXR600 and my mate on the 6 had wnakers cramp trying to keep up with me whilst I was cruising,

Yes I am a larger man, (16St) but I love the hilarious power of the 1000.

I have ridden 6/750/1000 and thanks very much, I’m a lazy fastish rider and will keep the 1000

Had the K2 750 and luvd it. for some reason I traded it in for the K4 thou Z, but never felt comfortable with it.
After getting wiped out last August by numpty woman cage driver, decided to get the K6 750, which I picked up end of March
I luv everything about it!! It is so much easier to throw around and the handling is awesome. With the slipper clutch and the amazing engine breaking, it is a breeze to throw into corners

Use it everyday for commuting into town from Epsom (18 miles) each way and find it great fun for filtering, especially with the easy flip mirrors.

I am so glad I dropped back down to the 750, but that is just my opinion!

I would happily go back to the 750 as well! The torque of the thou is lovely for the roads, but that’s balanced with the sheer grin factor of the 750’s handling.

This is one of the main reasons why I entertained the thought of a smaller bike in the first place. I have to admit that often when we pull in after a run, I think back to what we just did and think that we are lucky to all still be around. But the next time we go out, we just do it all over again…

I went from the SV650S to the GSXR 750. Wouldn’t trade it for anything. Way more power than needed in the really tight stuff in the mountains and cruises at ease on the highway. I think I’d be happy with a 600 also mostly because of the insurance difference. Insurance took the 1000 out of reach anyway. It would have been half as much as the bike payment…and I don’t have any tickets…

Good point, about the cost of ownership, gixxerUSA; I may have to downgrade next year, insurance is going to be a killer. If I do, a 750 might be calling again.

I only wish the other manufacturers also made 750 supersports. Not that there’s anything wrong with the GSXR, but choice is a good thing.

I wish Kawasaki would remake the ZX7 but come up with some very new and awesome! Would make a great bike!
