My K8 gixxer took a slight bash whilst on a trailer over the weekend - knocked the exhaust and clutch cover on the trailer mud guard resulting in small scratches. Nothing else visible. I’ve leaned the bike over on the road further than that.
Now it won’t start. Plenty of petrol, imobiliser light off, cut off switch is in the right position, side stand switch is fine, bike in neutral (light is on, gears work), the lights fire up and the usual whirring sound happens (fuel pump?) but when I hit the ignition switch, nothing. Not even a click.
I’ve tried swapping out the ignition fuse and the main fuse and no difference.
My concern is focussed on the ignition switch itself. Surely not all the spark plugs would go from a small knock? I’ve hit bigger pot holes.
I had a complete electrical fail on my Suzuki SV1000 like this - no ignition - no lights nothing - it turned out to be a wiring/connector issue around the headstock area - got a garage to sort it so don’t know presice tech details.

Lol! Any bike that activates its tip sensor on a knee down wouldn’t sell very well!
It does sounds like the tilt sensor. Suzukis are a piece of future rusting crap I just can’t live with them. When I owned one, I kept thinking I’d rather have a better bike with a big red button labelled ‘START’ and another one labelled ‘STOP’.
Check the battery terminals too. If it loose or unscrewed from the knock, it might need clamping down.
Have you checked for fault codes ? If you’ve got a manual for it ? On the K4 the crank sensor was on the right hand side too, if that’s not connected it won’t start but I would have thought the starter motor would fire.
If the starter motor won’t fire then there will be a fault code, just short together the dealer pins or whatever they call it on the later bikes and on the LCD screen you’ll see a code - the code will tell you which sensor or part of the FI system isn’t working.
FI light is fine - no warning lights. Killswitch is fine (unless it’s just not working, i.e. registering “kill” when it should be OK), I checked that one right away, lol. It’s not electrical at the fuse/battery end, checked all those and the clocks light up with the key in.
I’ll check the clutch and tilt sensor today (if I can, how do I find that?).
I did have ratchet straps resting momentarily on the cables to the right handle (hence my concern over the connections to the ignition and kill switches) but I moved them and the cables look OK externally. I’ll jiggle them around today too.
Thanks for the responses. This is the only prob I’ve had with the gixxer in a year, and it’s hardly the bikes fault. Freakin’ trailer.
Oh, and: gixxer gixxer gixxer gixxer gixxer gixxer gixxer. I love my gixxer.
I found the problem. Clutch interrupt switch thingy - must have been caught by a strap as it fell. I’ve pushed the contacts together but I’ll need a replacement part eventually.
Glad you sorted it - typical electrics - you think of all the complex reasons for the problem and then it turns out to be something simple but easily overlooked.
