Greenlaning or MX around london?

Hi Guys,

Is there a regular group for off-roading or MX around London? Want to give it a go but don’t know anyone that does it, was thinking of picking up myself a CRF250X as I heard it can be a pretty good all rounder.

Bare in mind i’ve only ever ridden on tarmac but use to do downhill mountain biking if that helps :slight_smile:

Not much “in London”, but the TRF (www.trf.org.uk) organise rides on green lanes around London. Are you north south east or west? There are various groups around, eg I ride with the group from Herts as they are nearest, there’s a pretty active Surrey group, etc.

Sorry for late reply, if you go south, most the riding is around Surrey / Dorking - there’s quite a lot of it and it’s where I go most the time.

I generally ride there from SE London, but I’m on a duel sport crf250l, so it’s pretty easy going (although i’m on nobbys). Not sure how more dedicated off-road bikes will cope with all the road riding to get there, probably ok, as long as you don’t cain it flat out - might be better get a van or trailer to transport the bike mind.

Keep in mind the dedicated off-road bikes like KTM or the CRFX you’re looking at require a bit more maintenance. Should be fairly straight forward as they make the job easy.

I would also recommend checking out the TRF guys, even if you don’t ride with them, the forums are a great place to start - join one of the local forums, for example the Surrey one) :slight_smile:

Hi I just got my self a ktm and looking for some on and off roading im not to far from surrey and ride boxhill so if you or anyone is up for it let me no :Wow:

I once went finding lanes on my SM around sussex… suddenly in the background I heard the unmistakable sound of 2-strokes… looked and across the valley was in fact an offroad track, with lots of bikes going round - not necessarily racing but going quite well :slight_smile:

Never got close to it as I was atop a hill…

I think it was in the Telscombe vicinity but couldn’t give an exact location.
