As some of you maybe aware my bike was involved in a crash earlier this week, i’ve just been handed the estimate price of £900 to get it back to pre-crash state. As the person that knocked me off my bike also drove off I have no one except my own insurance to claim against…
So im now actually playing with the idea of modifying the bike so it is off-road only… the bike is a Yamaha XT125X, so just basically it just needs some dirt wheels and maybe a different sized sprocket or two.
As I will nolonger have insurance on that bike and the bike will be declared to DVLA as off-road… is it legal for me to use the bike in riding green lanes? Im not very up on the rules of this sort of riding.
haha, yeah… im gonna give going through my own insurance a miss and repair it myself with the help
of a friend who builds trikes. Then it’s green lane all the way baby as il keep it taxed and insured as it’s
not exactly the biggest amount of money a month to pay… £40 insurance and £15 a year for tax… bikes
only 5 months old so no MOT for another two and half years either.
I may be wrong as rules change, but if it’s been written off and declared to the DVLA as that, depending on the write off category, you might need the equivalent of an MoT before you can get it back on the road.
Not sure how things go with bikes, but a few years ago a mate re built his insurance (economic) write off Alfa Romeo, got a full engineers inspection certificate then had a devil of a job getting insurance. Had to accept 3rd part F&T on a loaded premium in the end.
