Great Britain...being British

Will we still be the Country of choice and still be Gt Britain if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in Britain because it is the Country of Choice???
Think about it . …

All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn’t celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season’s Greetings. It’s not Christmas holiday, it’s Winter Break. Isn’t it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We’ve gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that.
This says it all!

This is an editorial written by an
British citizen, published in a
National newspaper He did quite a job; didn’t he? Read on, please!

IMMIGRANTS,
NOT BRITS MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we
are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on the 7th of the 7th we have experienced a surge
in patriotism by the majority
of Brits. However, the disgust about the attacks had
barely settled when the 'politically correct! ’ crowd began complaining about
the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain, Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. (The Danes, Romans ect.) However, there
are a few things that those
who have recently come to
our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of the Brits being a
multicultural community
has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As
Britain’s we
have our own culture, our
own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Indian, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language
Therefore, if you wish to become part
of our society, learn the language!
‘Land of Hope & Glory’ is our motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan We adopted this motto because Christian men and women,
on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented.
It is certainly appropriate to display it
on the walls of our schools. If God
offends you, then I suggest you
consider another part of the world as
your new home, because God is part
of our culture.

If the ‘Union Jack’ flag offends you, or
you don’t like our QUEEN, then you
should seriously consider a move
to another part of this planet. We
are happy with our culture and have
no desire to change, and we really
don’t care how you did things where
you came from. This is
OUR COUNTRY,
our land, and our lifestyle. Our Laws give every citizen the
right to express his opinion and we
will allow you every opportunity to do so!
But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag,
our lifestyle our government, or our
way of life, I highly encourage you
take advantage of one other great BRITISH freedom,
THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.
It is Time for Gt. Britain to Speak up
If you agree – pass this along;
if you don’t agree – delete it!
anon…
AMEN

I think if we all keep passing this to our friends
(and enemies) it will also, sooner or later
get back to the complainers, lets all try,
please

Seen this before but it was supposedly said by an Australian minister, in Australia about immigrants there. However: I WHOLE HEARTEDLY agree with the sentiments. If don’t like it then fu*k off to another part of the world where they support your views and leave us alone.

And as for my rights and feelings. In this country we have the right to free speach. If you don’t like what I say, well just deal with it. Tough! I have to tollerate your shite!!

Well said and here here

I couldn’t agree more, mate.

so can anyone explain what british culture is ???

what is being british theses days?

It’s an interesting topic for debate. What puzzles me is that when people emigrate to the US, they become American citizens and are obliged to swear allegiance to the flag etc. Here, because we have no such process. many immigrants seem have retained their former national identities and have shunned integration into British culture. The lack of a formal integration process seems to have given rise to these perceived problems; when it comes to the poorer natives of this country, from what I hear directly from their mouths is that there is a kind of “reverse discrimination” process where if you’re a white UK-born citizen, you go straight to the back of the queue for public housing or welfare payments or medical treatment.

On the other hand, if you look at ex-pat Brits in say the south of France or Spain, how many of them integrate and learn the language? Not many, Benny. So there’s a degree of double-standards in this.

For me:Food: fish n chips n mushy peas, pies, beers/ales/stouts, cottage/fishermans pie, casseroles, big breakfasts, sandwiches, lemonade made with real lemons, british grown fruit and vegPlaces/hobbies: riding country roads, (biker) pubs, track days (we have the best and most concentrated collection of circuits in the world!), parks, canals/longboats, cycling, fishing, swimming, walking, climbing, clay pigeon shootingCommunication/politics: dialects - especially cockney and new’astle, north south divide (gotta love the banter :))Could list loads more, but the biggest one for me? Especially as an atheist female:freedomspeech, what effing bike i ride, the fact that i can work and get paid (even if statistically I might still earn a bit less than a bloke doing my job), i dont need to burn my bra (theyre expensive!) thanks to women with foresight and strength, access to medical treatment, traveland the resources to still be proud of being a brit.

Hi Dear!

Rimwis

Well said, and welcome to the UK. Nope, it’s not our country anymore and somewhere along the way we lost the balls to stand up by our flag and feel anything other than shame and embarrasment. I lived abroad for many years and never felt I could just walk in and carry on as I liked. I had to learn different languages and adapt. Only in the UK does it seem we have to degrade our Britishness to make the newcomers happy. Don’t blame decent foreigners who come here to make a go of it. Blame ourselves. Steetsigns in Polish? Sorry, fck off.

you know, its good if people coming to do something, not just for easy life take the benefits and do nothing.

Ooooh, I didn’t realise there was a Square Earth section of the forum for discussing things like this

The article in the original post is a joke. How can you take someone’s rantings on what it is to be Britons, when he spells the word “Britain’s”?

Original post is a badly written rant that leads nowhere. Britishness and it’s place in this country, immigration and clashing cultures are topics worth airing.

Hey guys, enjoy our lives is beautiful weather today, time for the ride!!! stop that sh…!

Absolutely agree with you. Would be very interested to talk about it without the sort of opinions aired in the OP

GET ON WITH IT THEN, the pair of you! What better place than here!?I already have…

Well I’m English, born London, just about the time when immigration started, and old enough to remember Enoch Powells speech.

However, there is a caveat - for countless years we, as a country, ranged abroad pretty much doing as we liked, subjugating other races, creeds and denominations as we, the Empirists saw fit. We ‘converted’ many peoples and places that probably could have done without our version of civilisation.

We have, along with good works, brutalised other countries in our history.

We made many people subjects of the British Empire, enabling them with perhaps a citizenry that allows them to enter our land of hope and glory.

Immigration is those chickens coming home to roost?

As for the ‘taking our jobs’ issue - well, do we as English people see certain trades as unworthy? Are we guilty of becoming too lazy and above doing waht we might describe as menial jobs we’re quite happy to leave to ‘the immigrants’

Personally I’m all for the ethos of when in Rome act as the Romans, but it’s a fine line between patriotism and racism.

Let’s not forget that it’s us that have allowed our country to become as it has. Progress? Idon’t know, but I do know that change is inescapable and to be embraced if we are ever to move forwards.

So…if someone can’t spell they’re stupid ?I get annoyed about poor spelling, but I also know that a lot of very intelligent people can’t spell properly.I read the content of the original post and it is something that a lot of ‘British’ people feel strongly about - yes, we live in a diverse society but the do-gooders would have us give up our national identity (as the french did when the Normans took over and stopped the Anglo-Saxons using all their best four-letter words :D).In my experience, most immigrants are not offended at all by british cultural and religious systems / beliefs - it’s the PC brigade in the town halls that are responsible.I hold the same opinion as many - we should not have to bend over backwards to accomodate immigrants - it is they who should be working harder to integrate themselves with the British way of life.

Well, we really need a couple of pints in front of us and a couple of hours to do it justice. It’s less about immigrants etc. or people on streetcorners not speaking English. It’s about how we’ve allowed ourselves to feel as Brits and our lack of confidence in ourselves. It’s about how I feel I should somehow apologise about being English or wrong if I question why, oh i can’t think of a great example here, we spend money to print a half dozen languages on a not terribly vital NHS document to accomodate people. Maybe we could spend that money on giving English lessons, provide a skill useful for foreigners on a day-to-day basis. Again, I’m supposed to be working, so not the best example. The Estonians, a much smaller nation, only a million of them, live with 300,000 ethnic Russians in their country. They have no problem being proud of being Estonian, have only one official language, by law have to fly the flag on official days, etc… We seem to shuffle away from flagpoles on St. George’s Day in embarrasment.

Ah, the british way of life…

Well, curry has now overtaken fish 'n chips as the nations favourite dish - waht is more British than a few lagers ( a German beer? ) followed by a curry on a Friday night!

Plus, while we’re at it - Chinese takeaways? Pretty much part of the nations diet too?

Then there’s the Britishness of McDonalds another vastly popular diet choice.

Problem is that our national identity was long ago eroded, probably about the time of the decline of the great British motorcyle industry.

Look at France, most of the populace eat and drive French - I’d guess there are far more Renaults and Citroens than BM’s and Audis being driven over there?

We like all our foreign imports - Japanese, German and Italian motorbikes, BMW and Audi cars, Pasta, expresso and takeaways - etc., etc.

Thing is the ’ integration’ of other nations influences has long since been with us and is no part of our national culture - we’d all still be drinking cocoa and eating jellied eels !!

And, yes, I da eat jellies, love 'em, stemming from the English tradition of Sunday seafood tea.

I can spell very well by the way, it’s just that I think to fast for my fingers to keep up!

Ok, wait a minute… right tell me then what’s your problem with Pakistani, Indian or POLISH people? Do you know how many people on this forum came or born in those countries?

People like you should think twice before sending such “opinions” in this very friendly site. You started a row on a proud nations, who give their lives for Britain, or work very hard for it’s glory and prosperity. I feel personally offended as a proud Polish person who live in this wonderful country for quite long time. My ancestors have fought and died for England. So shut you mouth if you don’t know about those facts.

Are you foreigner yourself or maybe an BNP secret agent or maybe an Lithuanian who hates Poles etc. ?

If you want to discuss the matter, then come and meet me and another foreigners at BMM tonight.

Why I have to come to this site and read such stupid and pointless topics? Moderators, where are you? :ermm:

alistair, you’re a real star in my eyes!!!
