Got knocked off my bike yesterday

Usual scenario, went to overtake a bloke (in a freelander) and he decided he wanted to turn right, without warning!

We were travelling on an A road at approx 45mph and I hit the osr corner of his car. I remember going over the handlebars and slamming into the back of his car and then going down, tumbling for what felt like ages on the road. The bike touched me a couple of times and thankfully, nothing was coming the other way.

He stopped and was very concerned about me and was a nice bloke actually. once the police and recovery had left, he took me to the hospital to get my injuries looked at.

I got away with some severe brusing to the hip and big toe! but today, whiplash and stiffness in every joint seems to be coming out.

I can’t walk very well and can’t ride because I can’t change gear, so i’m using my car for now.

My bike, '05 white 600 Hornet is in poor shape but I don’t think it’s a write off. Every bit of bodywork plastic has to be replaced, mirror, clocks, left indicators, handlebars, seat, clutch lever, flyscreen, left pedals, grab rail plus associated parts. My crash bungs stopped any damage to the engine. Also my new sat nav is badly scuffed and my mobile phone took a hit.

All the forms arrived today so over the weekend I will be filling in paperwork. I only have 3rd party ins so I have got legal cover and they are going to purse a claim on my behalf. I’ve got a witness who saw that the bloke swerved without warning so fingers crossed it will pay for my losses but I was overtaking in a right turn filter lane so I don’t know where the blame will be laid.

Anyway, feeling a bit bruised and miserable also a bit worried about how I will feel when I next get on a bike. I think i’ll be ok. I have another bike to ride whilst mine is getting repaired, just need to get it mot’d but I can’t ride for a couple of weeks.

So take care you lot and don’t allow yourself to be rushed and take your time this weekend.

Very sorry to hear that mate, hope you sort out the bike and get back on it ASAP.

If you need anything you know where to come, I’m sure everyone here will be willing to help out if possible. Take it easy and recover soon!

Sorry to hear it mate, get well and hope the insurance coughs up.

soz for ya matey, but at least your ok, bikes can be repaired and replaced!

Ohhhh Mate, first Blade now you…, i dunno first its the watering can…

On a serious note, you are ok…thats the main thing, bikes can be repaired and bruises will fade

So get yourself better and hope to see you soon, cos we are missing you…

Though if Scarer cant come to the ice creams them maybe the girls can bring the ice cream to Scarer

GET WELL SOON LUV

x

Scary stuff for the Scarer

Hope you mend soon

Sucks when this happens but at least nothing is broken so it won’t take too long until you are back on the road. Don’t worry about getting back on, just take it easy and your confidence will return. Personally, I find riding past the accident site rather nasty (still have problems now) but it gets easier.

Fingers crossed you feel better soon!

Sorry to hear about that mate. as the others said. at least you werent hurt to badly. and the bike can be replaced. Get well soon and take it easy.

Sorry to hear this! This happened to me a few years ago and it wasn’t ery nice so I feel for ya!

You’ll bounce back!

ooh take care!, sorry to hear that, get well soon! xxx

Sorry to hear about this.

If there is anything you need just holler.

sorry to hear of u r accident scarer get well soon

Thanks everyone

Got some forms to fill in and decisions to make, don’t really want to keep the bike now, I kinda wish that it gets written off but I don’t think it will. I’m thinking of changing the colour to black seeing as though every colour coded panel is broken and black is the colour I wanted anyway!

Does any one know what happens with 3rd party insurance, do you get the repairs done and claim the costs back or do you have to wait for the insurance company to accept liability so they can have one of their approved repairers to fix it?

Aww mate !!! What can i say FFS !!!

Well as u can guess im in same boat?..and as you, im wondering if i should a/ do the bike up and b/ sell it and pack up biking altogether?

My wheel has gone off to be straightened, the forks gone to be straightened, had pedals repaired/replaced, bought mirrors, indicators, levers, screen, heelplates, bar ends to be put on later. Once bikes straightened and they are 100% happy with it, then the fairing repairs start?

Like you, im third party…and im paying for it myself cos to sue the council is like waiting to win the lottery! Had to buy another helmet…luckily trs, gloves and boots are all ok (amazing but good, cos shows to pay bit more for em, saves your skin, literally) jkt CAN be worn again, but its scuffed, so nah…

As for me? well ive been back in hosp but this end and not in surrey again? Have to give myself injections every day till i go to hosp tomorro, if ok i can stop injections? Gotta have more scans to knee?..stomachs all churned up and not settled yet, they reckon its the “shock” to system of crash and dont i know it? bruising going away 13 days later, but leg still very swollen and sore…im off work for 9 weeks and just about getting around now, only have to get home to put leg up, cos it swells and hurts !!!

Dont know how long bike will take to be repaired…but they are working on it best they can…and as i said, im paying for it, so its a case of getting it together…BUT the dealer wanted near on 4 and half grand…and the guys ive got doing it, say it will be a quarter of that! Plus no tax to pay…and cos they are all bikers? i wont be paying so much labour either…so thats one good thing? Dealer was charging me for everything new…and bike dont need most of it !! The rads got scraping to it and they were charging for new!! jokers…

Anyway, girl, so so sorry to hear you have joined the limpin crew !! Im with you, with the, not sure if i will be so confident on my bike again?..maybe when alls done…we can meet and see what occurs and go for a slow run, with the others? Most of the guys on here are more than happy to help us both out, i know that for certain?..

Take care and keep in touch

Please dont take this the wrong way I do insurance claims for a living. so I know where of I speak.

Scarer, reasonable case at probable 50/50 especially with the extra info from Weaver. Blade as I remember your off was due to bad road surface. I have sued on worse cases and made full recoveries for clients.

I AM not touting for business. But, if any one wants independent advise PM me or ring RSS.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that mate.

Glad to hear you werent badly injured…as has already been said, as sad as you prolly will be about the bike-it can be fixed.

Wishing you both a speedy recovery

Sorry to hear that mate. Hope you get better soon.

I’ve PM’d you with a question…or 3!

Hope that’s ok?

Scarer,

Sorry to hear about your off, I’m glad that all of your bits are ok. Good luck with the Insurance and all that stuff.
