As some of you may remember I had a minor off in October last year, and in December I had a bit of a rant about the lack of help I had received from the authorities…
I have been involved in a long and wearysome discussion with my local authority about a blue badge. I didn’t qualify because I don’t receive the highest rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (as I can walk 50 metres) and because I was lucky enough to retain one of my arms…
Last week my latest appeal to The Department of Work and Pensions to get the medium rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance failed despite supporting evidence from my NHS Occupational Therapist and the consultant at the local Disability Services Centre in my local hospital. Despite evidence from the two health care professionals they decided I didn’t need subtantial help with my toileting washing dressing and eating needs throughout the day…
However in the post this morning, in addition to the usual cunningly worded invitations to part with some of my hard earned money, I received a shiny new blue badge! To say I’m happy is an understatement… I’m off for a tour of Kent on Wednesday to buy a new car, as I’ll be exempt from the congestion charge now…
I’m less bothered about the Disability Living Allowance now…as it was never about the money…
Glad you fought and got it John. The authorities can be right ars*s with things like this. They just want people to get fed up applying and appealing and give up.
i know its easy to say but it does seem that those in real need dont get it and yet those who know how to play the system get everything going…it does seem a might ridiculous…
but well done John,
I on the other hand get diddly squat but I am happy with that…I hope my arm will get better in the future, well at least somewhere better than it is now and closer to what it was…
