Goodwood Festival of Speed?

24th June
Leaving @11:00AM from Ace Cafe only 72 miles! (Along A Roads!)

Sunday is timed competition – all hillclimb cars and motorcycles make a morning and afternoon run, with Supercar Run; Forest Rally Stage in action all day; final judging of Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’; live music; air displays. Prize giving takes place at approximately 18:30hrs.

Motorcycles: there is an area of hard standing at Goodwood Motor Circuit for motorcycles to park – with a helmet storage facility at the same location and another within the Festival site on the Exhibition Area – where riders can leave their helmets for a small fee (usually donated to charity). There is also limited hard standing in each public car park. It’s best to always bring a motorcycle stand for use on grass.

What is the Festival of Speed?
The Festival of Speed is far more than just a hillclimb – it is a celebration of the history of motor sport and can justifiably claim to be the world’s biggest and most diverse classic motor sports event. Taking place outside Goodwood House, using the main road through the Park as the track, it’s the only occasion where you’ll see in action the greatest competition cars and star drivers from the entire history of motor sport. Famous drivers and riders have attended such as Sir Stirling Moss, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Nigel Mansell, Mika Hakkinen, Johnny Herbert, Juan Pablo Montoya, Richard Petty, Carl Fogarty, Giacomo Agostini, Jean Alesi, Jacky Ickx, Colin McRae, Marcus Gronholm, Petter Solberg, Hannu Mikkola and Alan Jones to name just a few. The Festival is an unrivalled social and sporting occasion in the motor racing calendar.

  • Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ – get away from the machinations of the hillclimb by wandering round the world’s most coveted automotilbe design competition, which is a bastion of artistry and good taste staged on the private lawn of Goodwood House.

  • Forest Rally Stage – make your way to the top of the hillclimb course to see legendary rally cars in action on a gravel course in the woodland surrounding Goodwood House.

  • The Bonhams Sale of fine cars and automobilia – which takes place on Friday – brings to Goodwood House the exciting atmosphere of the sale room. Entry is by catalogue only: tel +44 (0)1666 502200 in advance. For further information visit: www.bonhams.com or via email to: [email protected].

  • Exhibition Area – more than 200 motor sport related trade stands are open each day, offering original art, clothing, models, videos, tools, literature and memorabilia, together with displays of spectacular cars and motorcycles.

  • Junior Festival of Speed – There are many activities at the Festival specifically for younger visitors. For more information visit the Festival of Speed section of the website and click on the link to The Action. At the event, follow the signs for Junior Festival of Speed.

  • Activity Area – try out the many hands-on activities including rides in Dakar 4x4 racers, cub karts, rally karts, the 4x4 precision course, helicopter rides to view the event from the air and a climbing wall.

  • Live music – bands will be playing at the Cricket Pitch and also in the bandstand at the Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’. Why not take a picnic along and enjoy the atmosphere?

  • Display teams – watch champion BMX and Skateboard teams perform their acrobatic tricks and maybe even have a go yourself.

  • Air Displays – The Festival of Speed is renowned for its breathtaking air displays throughout the weekend. Over the years the event has featured a huge range of aircraft in action – both historic and contemporary, and both military and commercial. Buy a programme to check out the action in the sky.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is primarily about old cars thrashing up a country house’s driveway.

But that hasn’t deterred some of the world’s most exclusive car makers from hijacking the event to launch their latest machinery.

At this year’s Festival of Speed, which takes place on June 22-24, we’ll see the 342mph Acabion GTBO for the first time in the UK.

Alongside the missile-styled Acabion will be the Bristol Fighter, which is the most powerful current production car thanks to its 1,012bhp 8.0-litre V10 engine.

We can also look forward to the launch of the Maserati Gran Turismo, Mercedes McLaren SLR Roadster and Caparo T1 putting in appearances.

British motorsport fans will also be treated to seeing all four current Brit Formula One drivers in the same place, at the same time, which is not always the case during F1 races.

The quartet is complete with the announcement that Lewis Hamilton will be at Goodwood alongside David Coulthard, Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson.
