I came back to biking last year, after a break of 34 years. I have been building my confidence up over the past year, and read many articles on the forum that have helped me get back into it, safely. Last night i was riding along a local A road, doing about 60mph, with traffic close behind me. I was taking note of all around me and in the distance I could see a car sitting in its driveway waiting to join the main road. I rolled the throttle back just a little so as to take an edge of my speed (you get a sixth sense, don’t you)? Sure enough, when I was almost within metres of him, he pulled stright out to turn into the opposing traffic lane (thank goodness he chose not to panic and stop as it gave me the opportunity to 'not target fixate, but to look at the ‘get out’ options by riding around him). I was also glad that the bike had been serviced, two weeks ago, and had new front pads fitted…really did scrub the speed off quickly. What I am trying to say, in a long winded way is that things I have read on this forum had stuck in my mind and probably helped save me from serious injury, or possibly saved my life, and that cagers really do not feckin look, or see!
Sorry, just realised posted in wrong section:w00t:
No apologies needed. Good that you kept it upright and kept your senses alert as to which escape route was the best option. Also remember to sound your horn, not in anger, but to alert cars. Works a treat sometimes.
aye, a simple double-pip alerts them without making ya sound like a t0sser
