Gollywogs

well put

+1…that’s what i was trying to convey in my first post…clearly didn’t do a very good job…oops :hehe:

Sadly our society has gone mad.

Claim culture.

Freedom of speech, for some but not for others.

Who rules the schools, pupils or teachers?

Respect towards your elders/family

Knife crime society

Lack of respect towards the police

Although I understand the thoughts and feelings of the initial post we have learnt over the last few years that their is a time and a place for certain jokes/comments towards a gender, race or stereotype, sometimes people choose to see artists such as Chubby Brown the key word being they choose to see.

If jo Brand was so shocked she should have challenged Thatcher instead of walking out of the studio, whilst Carol T should have appologised and thought carefully about her choice of words and the audience she was in.

I remember the jars of jam as a small child and relate the image of a golliwog to the brand of jam, the dancing, singing group before relating it to the original roots of its meaning.

This does not mean that I use the word in my day to day conversation or if I did I would expect a challenge to my choice of words, I would not expect to get sacked.

The BBC have lost the plot, as has the political machine that rules the country.

If you are a success in this country, the press will wait for the the right moment to bring you down, the rules change from day to day week to week.

Thats how I feel about the issue, some will disagree, hopefully open discussion will remain on our forums and it is down to the mediators to monitor the site if they feel the need to.

On a lighter note the one show is crap anyway, sack em all.

I don’t mind the 1 show, it’s mostly pretty bland but sometimes good. Never could stand Thatcher the younger so some good has come out of the incident.

But what you don’t notice is that this really isn’t a scandal at all! The media have merely created a ‘race row’ as they’d put it for it’s own sake, as they always do by taking something entirely out of context and trying to create a situation.
I’ve never met anyone who finds gollywogs offensive, personally I think you’d have to be bordering on the mentally defficient to not be able to appreciate them for what they are regardless of how people bastardise language…
I think the media have a lot to answer for personally with these systematic character assasinations they embark on turning non-incidents into news stories.
This society is simply obsessed with not causing offence! It simply reduces people to morons really.
I’d suggest that Thatcher was somewhat simpleminded herself, but that’s besides the point really, what this amounts to is erosion of free speech.
To take any of it seriously would to my mind represent political correctness gone mad, personally I don’t need the media to tell me what my opinion is.
This sort of thing does more harm than good.

… The world is on it’s head. Being as young as I am it’s worrying that this is the norm in my country and it only appears to be getting worse as I’ve grown up sigh

Absolutely, that’s the reality of it.
It’s just a mediated non-event really, something which the media have decided to stir up into a frenzy.
I wouldn’t mind but it’s just this sort of thing that tends to retard our society, I’d like to think people can decide for themselves. Its kind of like an extension of the nanny state, with a sinister overtone that tries to curtail free speech…

If you think this issue has been blown up out of proportion - then why are you making it bigger by bringing it onto here?

Your motives are clear to anyone on here who has a brain - you are clearly BNP and trying to stir up racial antagonism on this forum - which makes you a far-right bigot.

And anyway - what facking bike do you ride?

I haven’t got the slightest bit of interest in the BNP, as useless as they are.
I’m simply putting across my opinion, which when you think about it is what democracy is about. I’m not sure why you’re against it but you don’t seem to have engaged with anything I’ve said instead opting for some phoney slurs.
As I’ve said what I take exception to is this phoney political correctness which the media insist on adopting to push their stories, I find that more offensive than any mention of children’s toys or the likeness of a tennis player to one of them…
It just represents how juvenile and retarded a society Britain is becoming that something like this is worthy of headline news…I just hate it I really do, we’re turning into a nation of inept morons and this sort of thing only encourages people not to think for themselves.

Do you ride a motorbike?

Of course

What is it?

A 2 wheeled machine with an engine!

Come on, tell us what it is? Biker to biker

'Busa turbo.

A Busa! Wiv a turbo! facking hell - some bike mate! :w00t:

It’s nice.

Has it got a golliwog painted on the side?

Nope

I’m closing this thread now .

I would suggest that the point of the thread is not being put across very well and that and the subject matter is upsetting some people.
