Foxy and I are taking a much-deserved break over the New Year period and heading over to Los Angeles to stay for a couple of weeks nearly. We’re going to hire a couple of sports bikes out there (1098 for Foxy & a CBR-600RR for me) and go exploring. Perhaps to Lagua Seca amongst other places.
We’ve had a hard time trying to find out where the bike scene is in LA. It’s such a huge place that I’d be surprised if it didn’t have one! Does anyone have any info here that can help? Where do they meet up, go for rides, etc, much like we do?
The hire place is all 600’s and a 1098, so I’m going to try something different with the CBR-600RR, I love the look of Lustfish/Shauna’s one.
On my honeymoon we went to a bike meeting place on Mulholland Drive, called the Rock Store with loads of bikes outside. Also quite twisty roads up there which was unusual over there.Just googled it and it looks like Sunday is the day to go and the road looks nice and twistyhttp://www.ridesaroundla.com/Rides/RockStore.html
as far as i know the sport bike scene is big, LA is great but very pretentious & its all about looks…that goes for bikes as well. a lot of clicks!!! ive got a few mates in cali…i,ll get in touch & post.
Lived there for 4 years. Rock Store is a good ride to get to, busy on sundays. Also used to go angeles crest highway another place on sundays where bikes meet, 40+ miles of twisty mountain roads climbing high above LA (ahhh fresh air)to the cafe where one stocks up on blueberry pancakes, better during week due to lack of weekend traffic. Willow Springs Racetrack is 90 miles north of LA,bike racing once a month, you may get lucky and get a track day in. Ridden to Laguna Seca from LA, nice back routes. Track in East LA called Fontana, you might get lucky and do a trackday there. Police are very strict too. Me at Fontana and Willow Springs
Doohan, I’ve heard about the Police, and from watching enough Cops programs, we’ll be a lot more respectful than normal! The company we’re hiring bikes from told us they run trackdays as well at one local circuit, but I don’t know if we’ll do that, it might be a bit too much. We’re out there to relax, not blow our savings
