I was horrified to read that Sete Gibernau’s sponsor (Telefonica) has taken over my mobile phone provider (O2). Does this mean that my network is going to start crashing all the time?

No! Mate, the joke has this meaning only in English! In Spanish The translation of crash is not the same for the network go down, luckly!

Here (in Spain ) we use the same words too.
“Caer”
We used to say “Sete se ha caido de nuevo” ( “Sete has crashed again” :hehe
and “La linea telefónica se ha caido” (“The phone line has crashed”)
But to say the truth it is easier the first point than the second…
