Fuel up 2.5p a litre at midnight

Hadn’t really thought of this before hearing it being discussed on the radio this morning, but with VAT going back up to 17.5% at midnight that means Gordon Brown wants an extra 2.5p off you for every litre you put in.

With the price of crude oil going up & Sterling dropping, it’s likely to be back over £1.20 a litre again before too long…

I thought fuel was 1 thing that was not affected by the vat decrease I’m sure fuel was remaining at the then current level…

Thiefing b@stards.

Not quite, when they cut VAT to 15% they increased fuel duty by 2p to ensure they didn’t lose out, now VAT is going back to 17.5% but they seem to have forgotten to take the 2p back off fuel tax…

I already lose a large amount of my turnover due to fuel costs, so not good news for me. It will only be stopped and fuel prices will drop when the whole country stands up together and loudly.

I agree, problem is will never happen shame really if everyone could live without there car/bikes etc for a week would certainly show the government

They haven forgotten, they just want the extra money.

If only we were so fortunate… thought I’d have a look at the news out of interest, I didn’t realise we’d been stung so many times this year… we’re creeping back to £1.20/litre again (108-109p?), but oil is nowhere near $140 per barrel ($80?)

  • December 2008 - Reduction in VAT by 2.5%, Increase of Fuel Duty by 2p+VAT (VAT payers pay roughly the same, Non-VAT payers increased by 2p/litre)
  • April 2009 - Fuel Duty by 1.84p+VAT (2007-8 Budget)
  • September 2009 - Fuel Duty by 2p+VAT (2009 Budget)
  • December 2009 - Return of VAT to 17.5% (VAT payers pay another 2p a litre)
  • April 2010 - Fuel Duty by 1p in ‘real terms’, plus VAT (2009 Budget)

So from the VAT drop of 2008, to it going back up this weekend, we’re paying another 7p of taxes per litre… and more to come… yikes!
