FUEL ADDITIVES - OPINIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS?

OK so they are no substitute for a carb refurb if that is what is called for but they can help with freshening up the fuel system after a short layoff.

Any recommendations/experiences with fuel cleaners.

The only brand that springs to mind is REDEX.

Thanks for any opinions.

You would be better off drinking it . More usefull is buying a can of carb cleaner , just take the float bowl off and blast it up jets you can see , take the tops off and blast down on holes you can see . Just generally blast em . Its often enough if it just a little varnish here and there .

I stuck some of This in my old bandit last month when she was running rough, it turned out it was a dodgy plug so not sure if it helped her or not… like numnum says most of the reviews on fuel treatments say they are a waste of time…

Thanks guys.

Yeah - I can see how the carb cleaner going directly into the float bowl would be more effective.

Doesn’t carb cleaner damage the rubbers? I seem to remember one of my diaphragms getting stretched and out of shape (oo-er!) when I used some to clean my carbs and got it on the rubber once

Yeah - I’ve heard you need to keep it away from the rubber components.

When you take the tops off you would be removing the rubbery bit anyways or you won’t be able to see anything worth sqooshing.

Thanks NN - haven’t done it before so any info appreciated.

Good to know carb cleaner is not condom friendly

There must be easier and nicer ways of cleaning down there!

Carb cleaner all the way and not to be confused with the KY :w00t:

It’s called ManSoap :w00t:

I shouldn’t have to explain how it works…

as stated above, redex is crap however it doesnt hurt to use every once in a while (i usually put two cap fulls into a full tank at no set interval)
WYNSS (i think its them any way) make a spray carb cleaner you can spray directly through the air intake. thats usually my first point of call if the bike is running like crap.

i know motul, do a fuel cleaner… but im such a tight b*stard i havent tried it out…

best bet in the long run is to take of and apart and clean… there’s 2 diff carb cleaners one for internal one for external…

Do people experience this b*llocks with fuel injection?

There is even more bollocks to be had with Fi .

I was afraid you were gonna say that . . .

Redex injector cleaner works if used regularly. The petrol additive on carbed machines is not much use if added to the petrol in the tank.

The only worthwhile way of using that stuff is to stick a tube(s) on the vacuum port(s) on the carb(s), stick the other end(s) in a bottle of Redex and run the engine at about 2K r.p.m. for a minute or three. Cleans up the engine head internals a dream.

Oh. Brace yourself for the biggest cloud of white smoke since they last elected a pope.

You also have to be careful where you fill up from
I know it’s cheaper to fill up from the supermarkets but
Some people find it costs more in the long run , furred up carbs for one
Also with the government thinking on , or have starting using E10 fuel
If your bike or car is not new it will rot the fuel lines and can rust the tank and any rubber pipes

That fuel sounds really handy.
