How many of you went to Frith Street last night?
I assume you all received the treatment I did? (At least the copppers were polite.)
So any ideas on a similar location?

What happened?
Arrived and thought “No bikes?”. I suspected it may be too cold for those with a fairing.*
Just got my lid off and warm hat on, and a Van pulled up and a couple of coppers informed me that due to complaints from residents, and something in a the press (didn’t really catch that bit), the local authority didn’t want us there anymore.
As the streets on double yellow’s there didn’t seem to be much point in disagreeing.

Bugger!
Same things is going to happen to Chelsea as well no doubt. What to do chaps?
I’ve seen several such things at the Bridge over the years, but in 10 years this is the first time I’ve seen it at Frith Street.
I have a feeling this won’t be forgotten in a couple of weeks.
Have to say it was a poor show… Jason is forgiven, as his bike broke down. What’s the story, Jason?
Parking tickets were issued aplenty last night in Soho. I believe plate covers were lifted at the request of the police (once the spineless PAs had ran to them), as they’re ‘obstructing the course of justice’.
However, the double yellows are not marked off, so they are invalid. They should have a perpendicular line at the end, which these Frith Street ones lack.
Like so:
WTF?!?!? Thats so unfair
Hi All. I’m an SV rider, as most probably know, the SV bunch always park down Frith Street early on Fridays. We were approached by the police at around 7.30 ish and told that local residents have made complaints about the noise and “things”. He said that his boss now has a bee in his bonnet about this and intended to arrive around 9ish with traffic wardens and clear out the road of bikes. Bang on 9 they turned up and we left.
Before now, it’s only ever been once in a while that the traffic wardens have decended on mass and turfed everyone out. This is the 1st time it’s been enforced by the police, and the first time that I have heard that residents have complained.
i say lets just find another street like round the corner! Soho is such a loud and busy without bikes what did they complain about?
Shame the pricks running the met dont put as much effort into targeting bike thieves once in a while.
A***holes.
Here here, well said.
Another cracking avatar to boot. In fact, the whole Frith St thing fades into the background compared to that beautiful display of, ahem, curves.
Oh, well, there are plenty of street corners. Even just within Soho. So who’s local enough to do some scouting (dib dib)?
I say a demo is in order, just a ride through, slow and keep going round in circles down frith st/shaftsbury av etc.
Anyone know wot the traders think?
Are you surprised???
That is thanks to all those idiots who go down there to rev and backfire there engines. I am sure they don’t do that infront of their homes, why should it be allowed in Soho?
It was just a matter of time…
He’s got a point there.
That is true I have witnessed people sitting enjoying a coffee and having a bike backfired into there faces which ould annoy people. There is a limit to what people will put up with.
Come on, I´ve seen few of people from LB doing this and noone of you protested then, everyone was laughing then, so don´t play saints now.
Hardly laughing, Rottie. Nora does have a very valid point; some inconsiderate people may have ruined it for all of us. We could keep the burn outs etc for the Ace, and be more considerate in downtown London.
I was trying to keep off this conversation but can’t avoid now! I have been talking to some of the business around there for weeks now, trying to sort something else for a LB project. I got loads of complains from all of the business about people reving the bikes and doing burnouts… The problem is not that we gather there but make the extreme noise and take a verbal piss out of people that pass in the street. A manager of a restaurant told me that one of his best clients , a couple that used to go there twice a week and always have organised parties there had to give up the area after the woman be harrassed by some bikers… The man felt intimidated… I have also nocked in some of the flats around the Bar Italia and they told me the same, is not the bikers but the recent extreme noise and some anti-social behaviour them have witness… Come on? If you have a gorgeous g/f you know that you would avoid pass there friday night. Even though is just a laugh I have seen some situations there that I would not be happy if it was my wife. LB had a great plan that would please all of us I’m sure that but not anymore… I didn’t know that a formal complain was made but I knew that they were not happy…Shame!
I have to say that whenever we go, if we behave that way? We will be stoped…
I don’t know if this will be an issue that will linger, but it’ll be a few weeks before it’s clear if we’re welcome back there, though for sure, it’s all thanks to a very small minority who act the prat and make noise, rev’ing the bikes and sometimes doing burnouts. I heard a story that someone filled the front of Bar Italia with tyre smoke last week, not sure if that’s true, but if so, who the hell are these people, ruining our meet?!
They’re clearly not regulars, nor are they likely to have any decent moral fibre in their body. So we have them alone to thank for this pretty understandable reaction by the residents.
I wonder how the cafe’s feel about it all, they must get a healthy amount of business off us lot, there can be a hundred plus people down there on bikes in the summer.
This meet has been going for fifty or sixty years, since the days of the Mods & Rockers, it’s steeped in history and would be a tragic situation if we weren’t welcome back there in the future. Though that said, if we’re not, then we will have to set about finding a new venue. I’m sure somewhere like Covent Garden would provide equally entertaining surroundings, but the community would have to look after it’s own interests and frown on people acting in a way that risks the future of the meet, i.e. tell em to f*** off home and be a prat!
Look on the bright side, we’re still welcome at that shit-hole just off the North circ!
