freebikeparking - epetition response

Just received an email from #10:Read the Government’s response:It is for each individual traffic authority to decide on what to charge for parking and the vehicles to which these charges should apply. The decisions by the traffic authority should reflect the objectives of their Local Transport Plan. The Government generally sees no reason why people using a parking place should not be expected to contribute towards the cost of providing and maintaining it, rather than the burden falling entirely on local council tax and business rate payers.

-seems that the gov is not in our corner

Surely though if you have to pay for parking they are liable in someway for security or similar?

If free they are not liable cos it at your own risk.

I like your thinking, Good man!

I got this e-mail too.

“should not be expected to contribute towards the cost of providing and maintaining it”

I would love to see a detailed breakdown on what they spend to maintain a small piece of road.

That sucks, more spin! I thought we all paid road tax for our cars and bikes, so where does this money go then?

Silly me, we pay our road tax for all the shortfalls in the NHS, the shortfalls in tax from the sale of tobacco since the smoking ban.
