Need some new year-round waterproof boots as mine are falling apart. Ideally I prefer the racing boot look, so am looking at some Alpinestar’s SMX4, Sidi Rain boot, and considering some Daytonas (quite expensive though). I’m not going to get another pair of what I’ve got now as they were rubbish.
Anyone got any feedback on the above, or can recommend a decent pair? I’m going to see if I can try some on before I buy, but there’s obviously a lot to be said for an owner’s view. I’ve got a relatively wide foot and need 'em to give me enough leeway to fit with my leathers.
Always a bit of luck of the draw buying riding gear. Some people buy stuff, it’s brilliant, they recommend, you buy, it’s cwap. And the other way round too.
I like BMW boots. I’ve had two pairs of the £100 ish “traveller”, or some such name that have been superb. Despite casual care, three years before they leaked. Pull the jeans over the boots, no one spots you have boots on and they’re good for walking a few miles each day. Not much in the looks department though.
My winter present to myself will be (after the new tyres) a pair of BMW £200 ish “Santiago” boots. Highly recommended, well reviewed, just hope they’re as good as the other BMW’s boots have been.
Your choice, but when BMW say they are waterproof, they are. Going by mine and my sons.
I have had Sidi Black Rain Gores since last autumn.
They’re really comfortable, waterproof and not bad in the heat either (probably because of the Goretex).
I had an off in May and broke my left foot (not very seriously) while wearing them, it probably could have been a lot worse
Although it might not have happened with a more protective boot.
The boot is a bit scratched, but is perfectly useable.
I’d definitely recommend them for everyday use.
TCX Competezione Gore-Tex are good year round boots and are ideal for wide feet (like mine)
They are also very sturdy and protective (speaking from recent experience).

I recently bought some Puma Brutale GoreTex boots, only 120quid at J&S in greenwich - very comfy and dry as a bone in the rain, providing you’ve got decent waterproof trousers to go over them!
I have a pair of these too - they are spot oni have to say. Never leaked even in some of the interesting downpours we have had recently whilst on the M4.
( the same cant be said of my North face rucksak “designed to keep the water out” …my A**E ) haha
they retail at 200 but i gots mine for 180…not bad…
if we get hot fairly dry days i sometimes wear trainer-boots, there like trainers but with ankle protection, i wear an Alpinestars pair, dont know teh name of them but there a good compromise if you plan on doign any walking, i wear them pretty much only when working tho, ie riding and walking round hospitals or up and down stairs! try that in Sidi’s…not much fun! it makes you sound liek you got club feet coming down the stairs!
Bugga - they’re not yours are they? Have I just accidentally complimented you? Say it ain’t so!Mind you - would explain why they’re so clean… :laugh:Yes - i did mean those - very nice
hahahahaha… sitting here laughing and cursing all at the same time - cursing coz they is yours and laughing coz you was sitting in the thread hitting F5 just waiting for me to reply lolz
what he said…although don’t think mine are the GTX
i’ve done 18K miles in 15 months in these, and not got any complaints other than the left foot sole is wearing quite badly on the pegs - but it’s nowhere near worn through yet. Apart from that - no other significant deterioration. Perfect.
