What you going to do with the other 3 days? … Aha just notice the TomTom, now I understand why it’s taking 5 days
Puncture repair kit…even if you can’t use it someone coming to your aid might.
T-shirt for each day, undies and socks-couple of spare in case you get soaked
If you’re going out in the evening pack 1 pair of jeans and 1 jumper & trainers
Don’t forget your wets - leggings
Clear & dark visor & cleaner but soap and water in the loo’s is just as good
Shower gel will do you blokes as soap and shampoo-forget the hairdryer & straighteners
Toothbrush/paste, deod (no one likes a smelly person), comb.
Chain lube
licence, insurance etc but not really necessary
Phone & charger
Camera & charger
Headache tablets!!!
Wallet
AA/RAC card
Disc lock & chain
You’ll be wearing all your bike gear so wont need to pack that but if you have spare gloves throw them in.
If you have a spare set of bike keys take them and put them on you, not in your tailpack.
All this stuff will fit easily into a tailpack, then click the leggings around it on the outside so you can get to then easily…same with the visors.
You do realise they have shops where he is going???
If he stays in cheap B&B’s (much more confortable than a tent) he can then buy a small can of chain lube (assuming he ain’t got a scotoiler) and travel light - bikes aren’t really meant to be substitutes for a 7 seater estate car, and most including the Pan’s & BMW RT’s of this world work a whole lot better when they aren’t laden like a pack horse.
If you stay in one place I would really take next to nothing - buy stuff when I get there from the shops they are bound to have - and then either dump the excess stuff or leave it for the next lucky occupant of the room. If you really are moving from place to place then I’ll admit you do need to take a bit more - but don’t go mad - pack of 4 t shirts/pants/socks from Matalan or some other low rent store - You might quibble about the extra cost - but when you buy budget, you’ll find the costs aren’t massive - and I’m tight - and that your enjoyment will be much much more due to having a bike that handles like the manufacturers intended, not like a drunken sailor on cheap rum.
Bottled water - I believe they’ll sell this at all your intended destinations
Drivers licence - possibly - but only if you intend hiring a bike/car if it all goes horribly wrong with your bike - if not, don’t bother
5 pair pants and socks - possibly, you can make one pair last 4 days you know:)
wallet - yep, but only the bare essentials
iphone power - nah
ipod shuffle dock - nope
headphones - nope
visor cleaning cloth - yep
Ixus and memory cards - this is a camera right? Then yes.
Jeans - If you must, but other trousers or shorts take up less space
Bike jeans - only if you intend wearing them all the time on the bike
Trainers - I suppose
4 t-shirts - Only if you can’t contemplate buying new when you get there
1 long sleeve top -? - If it get’s cold, I’m guessing you’ll have a motorbike jacket
TomTom and power - I’m guessing that you’re geographically challenged?
BTooth headset _ I assume that goes with the above
Alan keys & toolkit - Think long and hard about this one… If anything goes wrong, are you really going to fix it at the roadside… I’d take a couple of cable ties and an RAC/AA card
cargo net - Oh yes
camera power – too many power supplies … :s - Doesn’t it take batteries
All layers for jacket - Probably not - I assume you have a textile jacket. I would imagine unless the temp is going down to about 5 degrees you’ll be fine with the summer bits
waterproof trousers (probably wearing these all the time) - possibly - but when I wear leather trousers which have been treated they can withstand most things the british weather can throw at me
towel - not if you stay in B&B’s
sleeping bag - not if you stay in B&B’s
Carrier bags for dirty laundry and keeping stuff dry _ One big rucksack liner to keep stuff dry. Bin the rest
Disc lock and chain - Yep - you should. I never bother, but I like the excitement of never knowing whether the bike will be there in the morning:D
Good Luck
By the way. Nick Sanders went round the world with an R1, his leathers and a Bum bag…
Thats an extensive list - bottled water? I’d not bother with that and just stop at a cafe if i were thirsty!
When i went the IOM for 7 nights, i took:
7 pairs of boxies, 7 pairs of socks, 5 t-shirts, 1 pair of jeans, no shoes (just wore my boots they are just as comfy) No tom tom - its cheating! Battery charger, I-pod charger, ear plugs, dark pinlock insert, insurance docs, rac number, water proofs, toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel… no deo - i went au naturele!
Happy days - it all fit into a 35 litre Kriega Pack too… no tail pack for me, my arse is big enough!
